Wiginton Fire Systems is seeking an Experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer to join our West Palm Beach team.

This position is intended for experienced fire protection professionals. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of fire sprinkler design experience working for a design-build fire sprinkler contractor.

This is a full-time employee position. Freelance and contract arrangements will not be considered. We are looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career, continue developing professionally, and grow with our organization.

Position Summary

The Experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer is responsible for developing accurate, code-compliant fire sprinkler system designs and producing the drawings, calculations, and related documentation necessary to clearly communicate the project scope to customers, project teams, authorities having jurisdiction, and field installation personnel.

The Designer works closely with project managers, sales personnel, field teams, and other members of the organization to ensure fire sprinkler systems are designed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, and company requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare fire sprinkler system drawings and design documentation for commercial and other assigned projects.
  • Develop designs in accordance with applicable NFPA standards, local codes, project specifications, and AHJ requirements.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and coordinate system requirements as necessary.
  • Review architectural, structural, mechanical, and other construction documents to identify information affecting sprinkler system design.
  • Coordinate sprinkler system layouts with other building systems and trades.
  • Prepare accurate material and fabrication information to support field installation.
  • Revise drawings and designs based on field conditions, project changes, coordination requirements, and AHJ comments.
  • Work closely with project managers, field personnel, and other departments to resolve design and installation issues.
  • Maintain organized and accurate project documentation.
  • Assist and provide technical guidance to less-experienced designers when assigned.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting project schedules and deadlines.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of fire sprinkler design experience with a design-build fire sprinkler contractor required.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and HydraCAD or comparable fire sprinkler design software.
  • Working knowledge of applicable NFPA fire sprinkler standards, construction practices, and fire protection system requirements.
  • Strong understanding of fire sprinkler materials, equipment, installation methods, and design processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and construction drawings.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with project teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and adjust priorities as project needs change.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company insurance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NICET certification in Water-Based Systems Layout.
  • Experience performing hydraulic calculations.
  • Experience coordinating complex commercial fire sprinkler projects.
  • Field installation or fire sprinkler construction experience.
  • Experience mentoring or assisting junior designers.
