As a Fire Mitigation Field Officer, you’ll join FIRELINE Emergency Response, a specialist business within the Active Group of Companies, backed by Active Tree Services’ more than 50 years of vegetation management experience. Working as part of a mobile field crew, you’ll use handtools, small plant and heavy plant to reduce fire risk, respond when emergencies occur and restore safe access after disasters. Between emergency deployments, you may support other Active projects and contracts, offering greater continuity and variety of work across the broader business.

No two days are the same. You could be reducing vegetation and fuel loads to help prevent fires, removing hazardous trees near critical infrastructure, or clearing fallen and damaged trees so communities and emergency crews can safely access affected areas. Please note: Regular travel across Australia is essential, and you must be available to work away from home for up to two weeks at a time, sometimes at short notice.

Do you have?

• A current driver’s licence
• Chainsaw Operators Certificates Level 1 & 2
• Experience in chainsaw operations and manual tree felling, ideally within forestry, arboriculture, land management, fire mitigation, emergency response, or disaster recovery.
• Strong safety awareness, clear communication and sound judgement when working as part of a small field crew.

Great, but not essential:

• White card
• First aid/CPR
• HC Truck Licence
• Experience using GIS and spatial mapping systems.
• Experience with operating small and heavy plant
• Experience in bush firefighting and implementing bush fire hazard mitigation measures, including the use of relevant plant, equipment and herbicides is desirable but not essential.
• During periods of major emergency response or disaster recovery, the incumbent may be required to support operational management activities consistent with their skills and background.
