Lincoln Fire & Rescue is seeking a strategic, forward-thinking Fire Marshal to lead a team dedicated to safeguarding the community through comprehensive fire prevention, inspection, and code-compliance operations.
In this leadership role, you will oversee division personnel, resources, and specialized functions, including fire investigation, plan review, enforcement activities, and the Hazardous Device Team, ensuring that all services are delivered effectively and in accordance with laws, codes, and departmental standards. You will set priorities, guide staff development, evaluate operational effectiveness, and maintain a high level of technical and professional expertise within the division.
This position also plays a critical role in shaping community risk-reduction efforts across Lincoln. You will analyze data to identify emerging trends, develop targeted prevention strategies, and lead public education initiatives that strengthen community safety. Additionally, you will coordinate with City departments, legal staff, regulatory agencies, and community partners to address compliance concerns, enhance service delivery, and support organizational initiatives. As a representative of Lincoln Fire & Rescue, you will participate in professional activities, contribute to special projects, and provide thoughtful leadership that helps advance citywide fire and life-safety goals.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in fire science, fire protection engineering, public administration, or a related field; and at least five (5) years of experience in fire prevention, inspection, or life safety, including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities, and skills.
Candidates also must meet such specific physical requirements as well as length and type of service requirements established by the City.
Possession of a valid driver’s license when operating a vehicle is necessary to the satisfactory performance of assigned duties.
Possession of Certified Fire Inspector (CFI) certification.
Possession of Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) certification.
Completion of Federal Emergency Management Agency National Incident Management System (NIMS) / Incident Command System (ICS) courses (ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800).
