Job Description

If selected, the applicant/candidate will be required to successfully pass the FDNY F-89 on-site for 1285 Avenue of the Americas within 90 days of hire and become the lead Fire Life Safety Director (FLSD) registered on the Emergency Action Plan shortly thereafter In addition, applicant must acquire FDNY’s F-01, F-04 permit, and AED/CPR certification

The FLSD is charged with the responsibility of overseeing the execution of the Comprehensive Fire Safety and Emergency Action (level 1) Plan and all staff training to ensure readiness. The 2014 Fire Code was also updated to cover non-fire emergencies, such as situations involving active shooters and medical emergencies and be trained in said general areas. This is an “Exempt” in-person/on-site position, and the position requires the FLSD to be on-site Monday through Friday during regular business hours or as directed when conditions require and is considered an essential worker/employee. Working-from-Home (WFH) is NOT an option for this position. Due to the critical and important role of this position, the FLSD is required to be “on-call” twenty-four (24) hours a day/7 days a week in the event of an emergency.

Responsibilities:

  • Community & Industry Relationship Building
    • Regularly attend local industry meetings i.e., ASIS, National Law Foundation, etc.
    • Regularly attend any/all NYPD or Community meetings i.e., Mayor’s midtown meetings, Times Square Alliance meetings, Community Council (Virtual/Non-Virtual), etc.
    • Actively liaise and build strong professional relationships with building tenants, NYPD/FDNY and other applicable agencies, peer security directors and associations.
  • FDNY Standard Compliance
    • Help ensure that standards are met In Accordance With (IAW) FDNY and related industry best practices i.e., fire/evacuation drills, Warden/Brigade Lists, familiarization drills, Active Shooter, fire extinguisher inspections, drain-downs etc.
    • Help ensure all Deputy-FLSD CoF holders and BES are trained IAW FDNY requirements.
  • Security Management/Fire Life Safety
    • Help supervise security staff and help ensure all security officers are compliant with the NYS Security Guard Act and receive required training and operate within building’s budgeted forecast for security
    • Assist tenants and owner regarding dignitary visits and special events
    • Conduct applicable incident investigations when necessary
    • Conduct all functions and requirements of a FDNY Lead FSD
  • Incident Management & Preparation
    • Assist with any/all police or fire related matters to include incident management, fire violations, unusual occurrences
    • Assist property management with any/all building emergencies/contingency operations and emergency plans
    • Review any/all incident reports for accuracy and fact-based reporting
    • Regularly physically inspect in and around the building to help identify, report and when possible, take necessary corrective action regarding fire or security issues.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in MS Office Applications i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
  • Ability to work in a high-speed, fast-paced, diverse organization with exemplary professional deportment
  • Ability to develop enduring relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent report writing ability
  • Ability to brief senior executives regarding fire/security/safety related matters or incidents
  • Must hold an active FDNY Z-89/T-89

Qualifications

Systems Proficient: Basic proficiency in daily use of relevant technology platforms and apps including Excel, MSFT Office Suite, and proprietary software. Readily learns and adopts new technologies.

Accountable: Holds self-accountable to meet commitments in accordance with deadlines while maintaining accuracy in their work. Self-directed to communicate status; takes ownership for decisions, actions, and failures.

Problem Solver: Navigates complex, and potentially contradictory, information to effectively assess issues and solve problems. Asks the right questions to analyze situations.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of at least 5 consecutive years of supervisory experience of at least twenty (20) or more subordinates.
  • Demonstrate competency and knowledge of FDNY FLSD duties and responsibilities and have acquired an FDNY Z-89/T-89 in the past at a class “A” office building.
  • Agree to either add another FDNY CoF to their official FDNY record or relinquish a previous CoF for building of assignment CoF if currently holding active FDNY F-89 in order to acquire F-89 for assigned building
  • Preferred; honorably retired member of the NYPD or FDNY
  • Active AED/CPR Card from either AHA/ARC is a plus
  • Completed Active Shooter Tng. (past 2 years) NYPD or DHS program.
  • Should hold a New York State Active Security Guard License
  • Must be able to conduct any/all functions of a FLSD CoF holder
  • Have strong foundation in working with multi-agency entities for high profile visits.

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a team member's base salary/rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g. location, years of service, specialty, education, relevant experience).

Bonus eligible.
