Finishing Shift Leader I - Baytown, TX

LOCATION: Baytown - Texas - USA

DEPARTMENT: INDUSTRIAL OPERATIONS

Purpose:
Responsible for leading and supervising employees during the assigned shift. Oversees and controls all production activities across the different machines and processes within the area of responsibility, ensuring production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and in accordance with product specifications, customer requirements, and Tenaris quality standards. Assigns responsibilities, monitors employee and process performance, provides coaching and feedback, and identifies opportunities for process and operational improvements.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Production Oversight: Controls and monitors the production process, ensuring the accomplishment of production programs and schedules according to product specifications, customer needs, and Tenaris quality standards. Coordinates activities across the assigned shift and ensures appropriate allocation of personnel and resources.
  • Shift Leadership: Leads employees during the assigned shift, assigns responsibilities, monitors performance, provides feedback and coaching, and promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous development. Ensures adequate staffing and coordination of activities to meet production requirements.
  • Performance & Efficiency: Monitors key process indicators such as productivity, utilization, charge to thousand, interruptions, and rejections. Identifies deviations and opportunities for improvement and takes appropriate actions to optimize plant performance and operational efficiency.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensures compliance with procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, product specifications, and quality requirements. Identifies and reports deviations from policies, procedures, and specifications and participates in the design, implementation, and improvement of procedures and work instructions.
  • Equipment & Maintenance: Promotes compliance with inspection plans and basic preventive maintenance activities. Ensures equipment and facilities are properly operated and maintained and escalates equipment or process issues as required.
  • HSE & Sustainability: Ensures compliance with HSE procedures and requirements during the assigned shift. Reports incidents, near misses, and observations; performs required inspections; and participates in incident investigations. Implements preventive and corrective actions and supports the maintenance of risk analyses and environmental aspect assessments.
  • Energy & Resource Management: Monitors compliance with energy and other supply consumption targets and implements actions aimed at reducing resource consumption and improving operational efficiency.
  • People Management: Proactively motivates, coaches, communicates with, and develops employees. Manages HR-related activities in accordance with Human Resources policies, procedures, and applicable standards, including performance management, training, attendance, and employee development.
  • Policies & Regulatory Compliance: Complies with Tenaris policies, procedures, management standards, and applicable laws and regulations, and ensures adherence within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Asset Protection: Protects facilities, equipment, materials, and other physical resources assigned to the area from damage, theft, misuse, or unauthorized use.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve production processes, safety, quality, productivity, and resource utilization and actively participates in the implementation of improvement initiatives

Knowledge Required:

  • Working knowledge of raw materials, production flow, quality control, and manufacturing optimization principles, with the ability to apply this knowledge to daily production and operational decisions.
  • Working knowledge of leadership, employee training, coaching, and performance management practices. Experience leading production employees in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of quality management systems and HSE principles and practices. Knowledge of Tenaris-specific procedures, standards, codes, and tools such as OPPs, PRDs, TSE, and STOP WORK will be developed through onboarding and training.
  • General mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand manufacturing equipment, production processes, and basic equipment troubleshooting. Detailed knowledge of specific equipment and processes (e.g., EMI, Hydro, Heat Treatment systems) will be developed through technical training and on-the-job experience.
  • Basic management and organizational skills to plan resources, coordinate personnel, prioritize activities, and achieve production, quality, safety, and efficiency targets.
  • Ability to analyze production and process indicators, identify deviations, and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and business systems such as SAP, PMX, MES, KRONOS, and NMS is preferred; proficiency with Tenaris-specific systems and tools will be developed over time.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate activities and communicate expectations across the assigned shift.
