The opportunity

The Product and Experience Design (PxD) Team, part of the Platforms competency within FSO Technology Consulting, works collaboratively with clients to transform their businesses through disruptive innovation and human-centered design. Our designers, researchers, technologists, and strategists work together to create superior apps, websites and software, supported by research, brand strategy, and a clear understanding of business and user needs.

Our clients are at different points in their AI adoption journey, but we design AI first. Our work starts in an LLM, moves quickly into prototypes, and lands in Figma for systems and polish. We also design the AI-enabled and agentic experiences our clients are bringing to market.

We’re looking for a talented and collaborative Product Design Manager who loves working with and learning from a multidisciplinary team, creates exceptional experiences, and excels at communicating with clients.

Your key responsibilities

As a Product Design Manager, you lead design delivery efforts across an engagement. You run multidisciplinary teams of designers, researchers, and technologists alongside client stakeholders. You are accountable for the quality of the experience we deliver, the economics of your workstreams, the development of junior designers on your team, and the client relationships that follow the work. You also shape how the practice designs: its standards, its tooling, how your teams use AI to accelerate the work, how judgment stays with the designer, and the case design. Outside client engagements, you will lead business development activities, including pursuits and proposals, and practice-building activities such as mentoring teams and developing and delivering training.

Skills and attributes for success

• Design leadership: Hold the quality bar across multiple workstreams, balancing scope, pace, resourcing, and craft. Lead critique and direct the work of Senior and Staff designers. Govern design systems and brand guidelines for consistency, scalability, and accessibility. Participate in hands-on design delivery where necessary and stay close enough to the design itself to direct it credibly.
• Evidence, outcomes, and value: Set the research and measurement approach for each engagement. Tie design decisions to client KPIs and business outcomes and build the business case for design work in language a sponsor can take to a steering committee.
• Setting how the practice uses AI: Define the standards, tool selection, review process and safeguards for AI-assisted design work. Be familiar with the evolving tooling landscape, including Claude, Cursor and Figma Make. Build reusable accelerators, templates, prompts and patterns. Raise the team’s capability, by example.
• AI-enabled and agentic experience strategy: Define the interaction philosophy and pattern library for AI-enabled and agentic experiences across engagements. Advise clients where AI genuinely adds value in an experience and where it does not. Challenge patterns that retrofit chat onto workflows that do not need it.
• Responsible AI in a regulated industry: Embed explainability, transparency, human-in-the-loop control, accessibility, fairness and model-risk considerations into design decisions. Embed them into the governance around those decisions. Partner with risk, compliance, legal and model owners as a matter of course.
• Making the case for design with executives: Advise client leadership on experience strategy and design operating models. Develop executive narratives and hold a defensible position under challenge. Educate client executives and internal EY teams on why the work is needed and what it returns. The aim is to build design into pursuits, programs, and technology initiatives early on.
• Client maturity and capability: Assess a client’s design and technology maturity. Define a roadmap from where they are to where they need to be. Build client capability through coaching and structured knowledge transfer.
• Engagement and practice leadership: Lead workstream delivery, engagement economics, budgets and resource plans. Identify additional service opportunities and lead design content in RFP responses. Develop people through coaching and feedback.

To qualify for the role, you must have

• Bachelor's degree in graphic design, UX Design, Interaction Design, Industrial or Product Design or a related field, and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in product or UX design, with strong exposure to enterprise platforms or complex systems. Alternatively, will accept a master's degree and 4 years of work experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading design on complex or regulated products. A portfolio that shows both craft and outcomes.
• Experience directing and developing other designers. Experience balancing multiple workstreams or engagements while protecting experience quality.
• Advanced proficiency in Figma and hands-on experience contributing to design systems. Fluency in Agile delivery using Jira or equivalent tool.
• Regular use of LLMs and AI-assisted design tools such as Claude, Cursor or Figma Make in your own practice. Experience setting how a team uses them.
• Proven ability to design data-heavy, role-based experiences.
• Ability to communicate effectively with senior business, technology and risk stakeholders, including executive-ready presentations. A high degree of ownership in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
• Requires domestic and regional travel up to 80% to serve client needs.

Ideally, you’ll also have

• Consulting or client-advisory experience in a design, product or experience capacity.
• Experience in financial services: banking and capital markets, wealth and asset management, insurance, or real estate, hospitality and construction.
• Experience standing up or reshaping a design capability, operating model or design system in another organization.
• Background in business analysis, process design, or product management. Experience supporting pursuits and RFP responses.

A design leader who is as comfortable in a critique as in a steering committee. Someone with a clear point of view on where AI belongs in an experience and where it does not. Someone who can hold that view in front of a client executive and change it when the evidence says so. • We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job is:
• New York City, Boston, and Washington DC Metro Areas, Washington State, and Southern California offices – $140,500 to $233,900
• Bay Area California offices – $146,200 to $243,700
• All other offices locations in the US, including Sacramento – $117,100 to $214,400
• Individual salaries within these ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
• Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.
