Job Description

CharteredPartners is seeking an experienced financial services risk professional to join our client in Hong Kong at Partner level. The successful candidate will lead the firm's financial services risk advisory practice, hold primary accountability for origination and client relationships, and shape propositions spanning prudential, conduct and operational risk. Specific qualifications, regulatory fluency and technical breadth are detailed in the sections that follow.

Confidential Client. Applying to this position means that you are interested to have an initial confidential discussion about how we can help you to identify and join a new accounting-firm practice. With your authorisation we will exclusively run the entire application and recruitment process for you, keeping you apprised at every step. With over 30 years' combined experience of helping the most talented accounting, audit, tax and advisory professionals to make safe, well-judged moves into rewarding new roles, we have the experience, network and ability to help you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hold profit-and-loss accountability for the financial services risk advisory practice, setting strategy, margin and growth targets.
  • Originate and convert significant engagements across banks, insurers, asset managers and licensed corporations.
  • Act as engagement partner on prudential, credit, market, liquidity and operational risk programmes.
  • Advise institutions on HKMA supervisory expectations, including the Supervisory Policy Manual, OR-2 operational resilience and stress-testing requirements.
  • Guide SFC-licensed corporations on risk governance, conduct and the obligations of responsible officers.
  • Oversee engagement quality, methodology and board-level reporting, aligned to COSO ERM and the three lines model.
  • Lead, mentor and appraise directors and managers, and contribute to recruitment and technical development.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A recognised professional credential such as HKICPA, ACCA, FRM, CFA, CIA or a comparable risk qualification.
  • At least twelve to fifteen years in financial services risk, including substantial time at director or partner level.
  • A demonstrable record of practice origination and client portfolio development in Hong Kong or the region.
  • Deep command of prudential, credit, market, liquidity and operational risk disciplines.
  • Detailed knowledge of HKMA supervisory expectations, including the Supervisory Policy Manual and OR-2.
  • Familiarity with the SFC regime, licensed-corporation obligations and the responsible-officer framework.
  • Sound understanding of COSO ERM, the three lines model and the Global Internal Audit Standards 2024.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing concurrent engagements to budget and quality.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; Cantonese or Mandarin is an advantage.

Preferred Experience:

  • Exposure across banking, insurance and asset management rather than a single sub-sector.
  • Experience of Basel implementation, IFRS 9 expected credit loss or recovery and resolution planning.
  • Familiarity with climate risk and ESG integration into prudential frameworks.
  • A track record of building and retaining a high-performing advisory team.
  • Active standing within HKICPA, IIA Hong Kong or the regional risk community.
  • Experience integrating risk analytics and modelling capability into delivery.

Compensation:

Competitive package commensurate with seniority and experience, including base, performance-based bonus, long-term incentives and (where applicable) partner-track participation.

Next Steps:

This opportunity is open to Hong Kong permanent residents and candidates holding valid work rights who match the above criteria. Please apply to receive prompt contact from an experienced and specialist accounting-firm recruitment consultant.
