Your role & work environment

You will be part of a team that provides market risk support to major stakeholders. The team is part of the Trading Risk Management (TRM) department in Amsterdam, overseeing the bank’s trading‑book market risk exposure. TRM is a global department within ING CRO / Financial Risk, responsible for market risk management.

The core activities of the team include measuring and analysing the market risk parameters generated by the trading desk, and monitoring and advising on the exposures taken in the trading books. In addition, the team is involved in the product approval process, position‑keeping system migrations, regulatory compliance projects, and technical and functional improvements

Your key responsibilities

The key responsibilities for the role are:

  • Understand and provide valuable contributions to initiatives across Rates, Non‑Linear Rates, and Equity products—both from a project perspective and in BAU activities.
  • Manage regular reporting, i.e., produce timely and accurate daily risk reports with a clear understanding of the underlying risks to explain movements to the business.
  • Understand the movements in risk factors and provide context for the evolution of market risk exposures in the trading book.
  • Escalate limit breaches to managers, demonstrating a clear understanding of the underlying reasons.
  • Understand the drivers of the market risk profile for the products and associated trading strategies.
  • Understand the impact of model parameters on pricing models.
  • Compile and contribute to monthly desk reviews with Front Office, covering limit consumption, limit reviews, and proactive risk‑management topics.
  • Participate in regulatory global projects as needed, as well as local and global initiatives to improve risk metrics, data quality, and trading/reporting systems—such as EBA Benchmarking and BCBS requirements.

We look for

A colleague with a talent for taking ownership and making things happen, who is enthusiastic and willing to learn about all asset classes. You have a good understanding of trading products and are a team player within a highly skilled functional team, contributing wherever needed. You are naturally collaborative, listen actively, and help the team achieve common goals. You enjoy challenging the status quo and are eager to propose creative solutions to problems.

As a Financial Risk Manager, you will also need:

  • Master’s degree, preferably in Maths, Engineering, Finance, and/or Economics.
  • Some market risk experience within Interest Rates /or Equity fields.
  • Solid financial product knowledge and a good mathematical background.
  • A good communicator with attention to detail and the ability to summarize effectively.
  • A team player who can work with cross‑functional, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Ability to understand the business perspective of key Front Office projects.
  • A flexible approach to roles and responsibilities.
