Hello, future Financial Manager II - Broader Africa Insurance

Role Purpose:

To provide end-to-end financial management, reporting, governance, and commercial support to the insurance businesses operating across Broader Africa.

The role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, effective financial controls, compliance with IFRS and local regulatory requirements, and clear performance insights across the relevant countries. The role will partner with country management teams, actuarial teams, risk, tax, auditors, and Group Finance to support sustainable growth and effective decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, interim, and year-end financial reporting processes for Broader Africa insurance operations.
  • Review country financial results before consolidation into the Group insurance results.
  • Review and challenge country submissions, including unusual movements, accounting adjustments, provisions, and manual journals.
  • Prepare consolidated performance commentary highlighting key drivers, risks, opportunities, and required management actions.
  • Ensure consistent application of Group accounting policies across all countries.
  • Maintain appropriate reporting timetables and follow up on delayed or incomplete country submissions.
  • Oversee the application of IFRS 17 to insurance and reinsurance contracts across relevant countries.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial performance packs for senior management and relevant governance committees.
  • Analyse actual performance against budget, forecast, prior year, and strategic targets.
  • Partner with underwriting, actuarial, risk, compliance, tax, and operational teams to support business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, regulatory requirements, tax legislation, and internal governance frameworks.
  • Support strategic initiatives, new product launches, distribution partnerships, and market-entry assessments.
  • Drive operational excellence through effective accounting oversight, maintain a strong control environment, including risk management and audit remediation.
  • Continuously assess own performance, seek timely and clear feedback and request training where appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant bachelors' degree
  • CA(SA) qualification with a minimum of 5 years post-articles experience.
  • Insurance experience is preferred.
  • Relevant experience within the Financial or Accounting services industry will be advantageous
  • Deep domain knowledge and experience in Financial Accounting, Analysis, Budgeting and Reporting is essential
  • Solid knowledge of Accounting principles, Regulations and Standards.
  • Strong analytical, commercial, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate financial information into actionable business insights.
  • Prior experience with IFRS reporting will be advantageous.
