Job Description

Help protect our customers and community from financial crime.

At Great Southern Bank, we believe banking should be about helping people. As Australia's largest customer-owned bank, everything we do is designed to create better outcomes for our customers and communities.

We're looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Crime (AML) Analyst to join our Financial Crime team. In this role, you'll help safeguard the Bank by conducting ongoing customer due diligence, assessing financial crime risks and ensuring we continue to meet our AML/CTF obligations—all while delivering a positive customer experience.

You'll make an impact by:

  • Conducting ongoing and enhanced customer due diligence reviews for customers with elevated AML/CTF risk.
  • Analysing customer information, transaction activity, source of funds and source of wealth to assess financial crime risk.
  • Completing accurate, evidence-based risk assessments that meet regulatory and internal compliance standards.
  • Identifying, escalating and managing financial crime risks in line with the Bank's AML/CTF Program.
  • Maintaining high-quality documentation that is audit-ready and able to withstand regulatory scrutiny.
  • Partnering with stakeholders to deliver compliant, customer-focused outcomes.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and the effectiveness of financial crime operations.
  • Keeping up to date with industry developments, emerging risks and regulatory changes.

Do things differently with us

This is more than a compliance role—it's an opportunity to help protect customers, the community and the Bank from financial crime.

You'll join a collaborative team of specialists who value curiosity, continuous improvement and doing the right thing. Every day presents new challenges, requiring you to think critically, solve complex problems and make informed, risk-based decisions. If you enjoy investigative work and take pride in delivering quality outcomes, you'll thrive here.

To succeed in this role, you'll have:

  • Experience or a strong understanding of AML/CTF compliance, financial crime or risk within financial services or a related industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to interpret information, assess risk and make sound decisions.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Confidence working autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital systems.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, business, law, accounting, criminology, investigations, AML/CTF or similar (or equivalent industry experience) will be highly regarded.

Why Great Southern Bank?

Whatever your role with us, you'll be part of a force for good. We're owned by our customers right here in Australia, so our success benefits everyday people and families. Working at Great Southern Bank, you'll also enjoy a range of fantastic benefits, some examples include:

  • Helping you unlock a brighter future by investing in your development and wellbeing, offering you study leave, a day for you and professional wellbeing coaching.
  • Benefits that support you and your wellbeing so that you can thrive at work and at home, today and tomorrow. Enjoy access to our wellbeing centre and the flexibility to work from home two days a week.
