The Financial Counselor-Lab performs tasks and duties in a fast pace and high-volume Lab Draw Station setting. Reviews all lab orders to be interfaced to Cerner, gathers demographic, employment, and insurance data necessary for registration and verifies insurance coverage and benefits. Performs financial screening, financial arrangements and assists self-pay patients by finding alternative ways of meeting their financial obligation. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Minimum one year customer service experience required; preferably in a hospital-based registration, physician's office, Medical Group registration specializing in Managed Care, Medi-Cal, Medicare, and/or California Children's Services. Experience with Federal, State, and County eligibility regulations preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Excellent Customer Service skills required. Able to write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; deliver the highest level of customer service to all patients, family, internal and external customers; use a computer, printer, and software programs necessary to position (e.g., Microsoft applications, patient accounting, registration and insurance eligibility applications); operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the job. Able to communicate effectively in English, in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; relate positively, effectively and professionally with others; provide leadership and supervision; be consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; teach and collaborate; accept direction; work independently and with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve, organize and prioritize workload; demonstrate good memory; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; write, hear, read and speak sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with workplace; see adequately to read computer screens and written documents necessary to the position.
