Make a meaningful difference in the lives of people experiencing financial hardship. The Salvation Army’s Moneycare team is seeking a qualified Locum Financial Counsellor to provide flexible financial counselling support across our national network.

About the Role

As a locum, you will provide essential coverage during periods of leave, vacancies and fluctuating service demand, supporting the NSW ACT Moneycare team while working from the Hamilton site. Your contribution ensures continuity of service for community members experiencing financial difficulty.

Although services are delivered remotely through digital and tele-service channels, the position is based at Hamilton, NSW, and on-site attendance is a core requirement. This is a remote-delivery role, but not a work-from-home position.

Reporting to the State Manager, this is a Full-time role. Salary is aligned with the SCHADS Award Level 5.

How you will make an impact

  • Deliver holistic casework that is community‑member‑centred and aligned with relational, missional and professional practice
  • Conduct assessments, develop case plans, monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed
  • Advocate with creditors, liaise with external agencies and support referral pathways
  • Maintain accurate records in TSA systems (including SAMIS) and contribute to reporting requirements
  • Collaborate across the NSW ACT Moneycare team to ensure continuity of service and quality outcomes
  • Identify risks, escalate concerns promptly and participate in continuous quality improvement
  • Adapt quickly to different team environments, manage caseload transitions and operate confidently in digital/remote service delivery
  • What you will bring
  • Diploma of Financial Counselling and accredited with a recognised state financial counselling association
  • Experience in social services or a strong understanding of financial hardship and exclusion issues
  • High level interpersonal, active listening and analytical skills
  • The ability to work with people suffering difficulties and crisis
  • Willingness to travel on occasion for training and development
  • The ability to work within a counselling framework is highly regarded
  • Valid Working with Children Check

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville.
