Will interact and communicate largely with the attending physicians, managed care personnel, the care team and the transplant clinical coordinators. The Transplant Financial Coordinator will also work with patients and their families in a compassionate and tactful manner prior to transplant to allow for clarity of financial care. The transplant financial coordinator is responsible for being up to date on all insurance rules and policies regarding transplants and cellular therapy treatments. The financial coordinator conducts transplant financial evaluations with patients being seen by Jefferson’s transplant / cellular therapy program team to determine requirements for transplantation. To obtain financial clearance information and prior authorizations for all phases of transplantation – workup, collection and transplantation
Educate patients regarding insurance coverages and work with patients and families on obtaining fully approved coverage for transplantation
Provide additional advice and financial counseling to uninsured and underinsured patients on corrective measures to obtain coverage
Initiate the investigative process for newly approved cellular therapy products regarding authorization approvals
Communicate financial findings to transplant team members including social workers, transplant coordinators, physicians, inpatient and outpatient care teams
