The Financial Controlling Manager (m/fd) plays a pivotal role in the finance team, ensuring optimised cash management, including cash collection and credit control, secured balance sheet reporting, accurate masterdata management and internal control foundations framework.

Managing a team of 3 people, the financial controlling manager will focus on:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Credit Management & Cash Collection

(Supported by Credit Controller)

  • Support credit decisions within policy guidelines and authority limits; establish and manage customer credit limits
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of customer financial statements and risk profiles to assess creditworthiness and credit exposure
  • Collaborate with Sales teams to balance credit risk with business objectives; resolve credit holds and support order management
  • Lead monthly Credit Committee meetings: prepare materials, facilitate discussions, and document decisions and action items
  • Maintain and continuously optimize customer risk ratings, bad debt provisions, and credit policy compliance
  • Evaluate and optimize credit insurance coverage in partnership with insurance providers
  • Proactively identify emerging credit risks and recommend mitigation strategies

2. Cash Forecasting & Working Capital Management

(Supported by Accounting and FP&A)

  • Prepare accurate cash budgets and rolling 13-week cash forecasts; analyze and explain variances against actuals
  • Lead Cash-In/Cash-Out (CICO) analysis and reporting to identify liquidity drivers and optimize cash flow
  • Partner with stakeholders to implement working capital initiatives that improve cash conversion cycles and optimize Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) & Days Payables Outstanding (DPO)
  • Own monthly cash reporting to the Finance Director, including actuals, forecasts, risks, and opportunities
  • Drive achievement of cash collection and DSO targets across the Benelux region
  • Review and validate monthly banking reconciliations; optimize cash positioning at the Group level

3. Accounting, Controls & Compliance

(Supported by the team)

  • Champion master data governance and new ways of working to ensure clean, compliant, and reliable reference data across all systems and processes
  • Lead internal control initiatives (e.g., internal control self-assessment questionnaires, access rights management, segregation of duties)
  • Execute key controls including balance sheet account reconciliations, statutory vs. internal reporting reconciliations, and variance analysis
  • Manage all banking partner relationships: KYC compliance, performance reviews, and optimization of bank accounts and services
  • Support statutory and internal audits by providing timely documentation, analysis, and audit responses

4. Data, Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Deliver timely, accurate reporting of KPIs (DSO, DPO, cash position, credit metrics) using available financial systems and tools
  • Leverage data analytics to improve forecasting accuracy, reporting quality, and financial decision-making
  • Identify and implement process improvements, control enhancements, and system optimization opportunities
  • Maintain clear, up-to-date documentation for credit, cash, and accounting procedures; ensure knowledge transfer within the team

IDEAL PROFILE

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • 5-7 years of experience in external audit, financial controlling or treasury functions
  • Proven experience managing a team
  • Strong background in cash forecasting, working capital management, and credit analysis

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, financial modeling, data analysis)
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
  • Knowledge of banking systems and cash management platforms
  • Familiarity with internal control frameworks is a plus
  • Strong analytical capabilities

Soft Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills in English and Dutch/French (ability to present to senior management and work across functions)
  • Strong stakeholder management: ability to influence Sales, Accounting, and FP&A teams
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Problem-solving mindset with a drive for continuous improvement
  • Ability to work independently while managing a small team
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
