We are seeking a Financial Controller to join our Rail & Transit Systems (RTS) Head Office Team.


Reporting directly to the General Manager, Finance, this role is a key senior member of the head office finance team, providing strong financial controllership and leadership. Working closely alongside RTS leadership, this position will lead the production of statutory financial and management accounting reporting for the business unit.

This is a highly visible role offering the opportunity to provide strong financial governance stewardship, improve financial frameworks, and support our business to deliver sustainable projects.

Some accountabilities will include:

  • Lead the RTS financial closure and reporting process, ensuring completeness, accuracy and integrity of our financial results.

  • Support in the coordination of internal and external audit requirements, ensuring timely submission and completion of audits.

  • Establish and maintain internal controls and financial governance to help proactively identify financial risks and ensure compliance with Downer standards.

  • Be the RTS subject matter expert for all financial and tax accounting queries.

  • Proactively identify continuous improvement opportunities that can help to improve our ways of working.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team and foster deep relationships with other Downer Group functions.

This is a fulltime, permanent role, based on site in our North Ryde office

About You:

  • 8+ years demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting gained at a similar level in a major organisation.

  • Tertiary qualification in Finance or Accounting or equivalent business experience

  • Membership with recognised Australian accounting body (CPA/CAANZ)

  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in financial reporting, modelling, and analysis.

  • Strong technical accounting (AASB/IFRS) and management reporting knowledge.

  • Advanced financial reporting and analysis skills, including utilising financial systems (JDEdwards/OneStream).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills suitable for executive-level communication.

  • Pro-active continuous improvement mindset.
