Job Description

HyperLight is at the forefront of the commercialization of thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) integrated photonics - a material and process technology that is enabling high-performance, scalable optical components across AI/datacom infrastructure, hyperscale computing, quantum computing, sensing, and beyond. Founded in 2018 and backed by leading venture capital, we’ve built a team and a platform focused on real-world mass deployment of TFLN photonics technology.

At the core of our work is the TFLN Chiplet™ platform — a modular, integrated architecture designed for scalability, manufacturability, and seamless integration into complex systems. It offers a rare combination of extraordinary performance and industrial readiness, enabling system developers across applications to deploy the technology fast and ready. We partner with our customers and suppliers from conceptualization, design, and prototyping phases, all the way through mass production to ensure smooth and rapid deployment of TFLN photonic technology.

We believe our platform is the key, in the golden age of integrated photonics, to empower humanity to the next level. We assembled a world class team covering engineering, business, and operations. We believe in the power of integrity, innovation, collaboration, and pragmatic solutions. Our diverse team thrives on challenges and is united by a shared commitment to excellence. We take pride in tackling complex challenges with curiosity, humility, and a deep sense of care for one another.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller, APAC to serve as HyperLight's regional finance leader in Singapore reporting directly to the Corporate Contoller in the US. In addition to regional duties, this role will also be the global owner of cost accounting — including standard costs, inventory valuation, and product margin analytics — across all HyperLight's operations worldwide.

At HyperLight, you'll join a world-class team working at the frontier of integrated photonics – combining materials science, system design, and scalable manufacturing. You'll partner closely with Operations, Engineering, and the US-based Finance team to build a rigorous, scalable cost accounting infrastructure that supports gross margin discipline as we grow.

As part of your responsibilities, you will be:

  • Own monthly close for HyperLight's APAC entities, including journal entries, reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and reporting back to US HQ on the corporate close calendar.
  • Lead statutory reporting and regulatory compliance across APAC jurisdictions: local GAAP financial statements, corporate income tax, GST/VAT, withholding tax, transfer pricing documentation, and statutory audits and EDB claim submissions.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, corporate secretaries, and other professional service providers across the region.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, intercompany flows, cash management, and treasury operations for APAC entities.
  • Support new entity setup, banking, statutory registrations, and finance infrastructure as HyperLight expands across APAC.
  • Own HyperLight's global cost accounting function, including standard costing methodology, BOM and routing accuracy, inventory valuation, COGS, and variance analysis.
  • Lead the annual standard cost roll process and ongoing maintenance; ensure cost data integrity in NetSuite ERP.
  • Partner with operations and engineering on yield economics, scrap, PPV, manufacturing variances, and continuous margin improvement.
  • Provide gross margin analytics, product profitability views, and cost insights to global leadership.
  • Build and maintain global cost accounting policies, internal controls, and SOPs aligned with IFRS and US GAAP.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA, CA (Singapore), ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification strongly preferred.
  • Extensive progressive accounting and finance experience, typically gained over 10+ years, including 3+ years in a Controller or senior finance leadership role.
  • Deep, hands-on cost accounting experience in a hardware, semiconductor, photonics, electronics, or industrial manufacturing environment — standard costing, inventory valuation, BOM/routing, COGS, variance analysis, and margin analytics. This is a core requirement.
  • Strong working knowledge of statutory accounting, corporate tax, GST/VAT, transfer pricing, and audit requirements across APAC jurisdictions; Singapore mastery required, with experience in Taiwan a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to operate under US GAAP and reconcile to local statutory reporting; experience supporting US-headquartered multinationals strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite and Ramp; comfortable owning system configuration and process improvements.
  • Strong internal controls mindset; SOX-readiness, pre-IPO, or Big 4 audit background a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and US-based corporate teams across time zones — including comfort with the time-zone overlap required to work closely with US HQ.
  • High ownership, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to balance strategic build-out with day-to-day execution in a fast-moving startup.

Benefits

  • Competitive market-based compensation and benefits
  • Professional growth and mentorship opportunities
