Job Description

Financial Controller

Department: Global Financial Reporting, Accounting and Tax

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Brazil

Description

As one of the top mobility companies in the world, we have been redefining the industry with innovative mobile technologies since 2013, driving us toward becoming a super app. Join us in our mission to combat global injustice.

We are seeking a strategic Financial Controller to own the close and local regulatory compliance processes for our legal entities in Latin America, with a primary focus on Brazil, Mexico and Peru, and to lead and develop our LATAM accounting team. You will provide thought leadership and accounting expertise to support strategic decision-making in local accounting and compliance matters, and you will leverage your deep knowledge of local compliance requirements to support treasury, tax planning and FP&A.

Note: ONLY CVs in English will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the LATAM accounting team (about 5 to 6 people across Mexico, Brazil and Peru): give clear structure and guidance, support learning and growth, and hold the team accountable without micromanaging.
  • Perform month-, quarter- and year-end close and financial reporting under U.S. and local GAAP, and ensure compliance with local statutory accounting, tax, cash repatriation and other regulatory requirements.
  • Own local statutory audits, tax audits and regulatory changes in each jurisdiction, working closely with tax agents and business process outsourcers (BPOs).
  • Own general ledger management, account reconciliations, flux analysis and adherence to internal controls; own entity deliverables for the global audit.
  • Lead continuous improvement of the close process, focusing on automation, SOP documentation, scalability and standardization, and reduce the number of days to close.
  • Use technology and AI tools to build and scale automated accounting processes.
  • Guide the business through the accounting operations and compliance setup of newly opened legal entities, including fiscalization and e-invoicing requirements.
  • Identify and resolve operational inefficiencies, accounting issues and regulatory risks with a proactive, data-driven mindset, with a strong understanding of the differences between U.S. GAAP and local GAAP.
  • Partner with Treasury, Tax and FP&A to support cash repatriation, tax planning and forecasting.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • 10+ years of total work experience owning month-, quarter- and year-end close under local and U.S. GAAP, focused on timeliness, accuracy, robust documentation of standard operating procedures, adherence to internal controls and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Must have experience working in a large public company and strong U.S. GAAP knowledge in a Sarbanes-Oxley environment. A strong IFRS background is welcome as long as U.S. GAAP knowledge is solid.
  • Proven people leadership: a strong manager who builds and develops teams, is kind and empathetic while holding people accountable, and is focused on excellence in accounting, close and compliance.
  • Deep experience with local regulatory reporting, taxation and compliance matters, including working with BPOs and tax audits, and the ability to learn the requirements of new jurisdictions quickly and take end-to-end ownership.
  • Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams such as treasury, reporting, tax, shared services, HR and FP&A.
  • A builder's mindset focused on constant improvement, with a track record of reducing days to close and bringing efficiencies through technology, standardization of processes and talent development.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, comfortable with ambiguity and working in fast-paced, remote-first, high-productivity and multicultural environments.
  • Clear communication in English, written and spoken.
  • An authorized public accounting license such as Chartered Accountant or local equivalent.
  • Nice to have: experience in tech marketplaces or apps (first preference) or B2B SaaS companies; Big 4 background; NetSuite; hands-on experience building automations with AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT.

Job Benefits

  • Be part of a growing and innovative company with a unique approach to ride-hailing and Fintech solutions.
  • Enjoy a collaborative and supportive work environment where new ideas and perspectives are encouraged and valued.
  • Competitive salary as a full-time employee.
  • Hybrid work arrangements to support a healthy work-life balance.
