POSITION SUMMARY

The Financial Assistance Coordinator supports Greater Somerset County YMCA (“Organization”) in advancing its commitment to providing equitable access to membership, programs, and services by helping reduce financial barriers to participation.

This position is responsible for the timely, accurate, consistent, and confidential administration of the Organization’s financial assistance program. The Financial Assistance Coordinator reviews applications and supporting documentation and has delegated authority to approve or deny financial assistance requests based on the Organization’s established eligibility criteria, policies, and procedures. The Coordinator documents determinations and communicates decisions and program requirements to applicants in a caring, respectful, and professional manner.

The Financial Assistance Coordinator maintains confidential records, responds to applicant questions, and collaborates with membership, program, finance, and other staff to support consistent administration of the financial assistance program. Applications or circumstances that fall outside established criteria or require an exception are referred to the Chief Financial Officer for review and determination.

Successful performance requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, discretion, organization, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Financial Assistance Coordinator demonstrates the Organization’s values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility while supporting equitable access to the Organization’s programs and services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluate and process financial aid applications
  • Provide/maintain a status report on all open applications for operations team
  • Maintain financial aid records and documentation
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with policies
  • Prepare and submit reports related to financial aid activities and expenditures
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve the efficiency of financial aid processes
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a financial aid office
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
