The Office of Accounting and Fiscal Services is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Financial Analyst II to join its Treasury Team. We are looking for an experienced accounting professional who demonstrates advanced financial analysis capabilities, excels at conducting complex financial research, and can work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial processing, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance with institutional and funding regulations. The accountant II will be responsible for analyzing and resolving complex accounting issues, performing reconciliations, preparing and reviewing journal entries, and providing financial guidance to departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, research, correct, and post deposits to the appropriate department owners within PeopleSoft.
- Prepare and review journal entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and institutional policies.
- Perform complex reconciliations of transactions, accounts, and departmental financial activity.
- Analyze accounting data and financial trends to support reporting, decision-making, and process improvements.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, exceptions, and variances.
- Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with applicable institutional, state, and funding-source policies and procedures.
- Assist in developing and improving accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting practices.
- Provide guidance and support to departments regarding financial transactions and accounting procedures.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Word.
- Ability to apply mathematical and accounting reasoning to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend solutions.
- Sound judgment in interpreting and applying policies, procedures, regulations, and accounting standards.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, or other related field
- Experience
2 years of progressively responsible experience in finance and/or accounting with experience in planning, forecasting, and financial analysis
JOB DUTIES
- Completes variety of monthly financial management reports and reviews all reports for errors and inconsistencies; analyzes variations in forecasts and actual performance; determines reasons for variance; develops recommendations for improvement; completes written summaries of financial data.
- Prepares monthly financial reports, schedules for annual financial reports, and reports to various government agencies, ensuring conformance of such reports with applicable procedures and regulations of University of Texas System and Federal and State agencies concerned.
- Identifies areas of poor performance, presents findings, and makes recommendations to upper management.
- Prepares financial models and conducts financial analyses.
- May maintain controls for policies and procedures for financial system; develops and maintains delegation of authority of various procedures, such as check requests, refunds, invoice approval, bad debt write-offs, etc.
- Completes special projects as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
