The Financial Analyst supports the finance team by acquiring, transforming, and analyzing financial data to produce accurate, actionable reporting for accountants and finance leadership. This role bridges data systems and financial operations, ensuring timely insights that inform decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen financial performance within a healthcare environment. The analyst will work extensively with electronic health records (EHRs), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and reporting tools, including SQL-based query development and report writing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Data Acquisition & Management
Extract, compile, and validate data from multiple sources including EHRs and ERP systems.
Develop and maintain data pipelines and queries to ensure reliable and consistent data feeds.
Collaborate with business intelligence and third-party vendors to resolve data integrity issues and produce operational insights.
Ensure compliance with data governance, HIPAA, and organizational security standards.
Financial & Operational Analysis
Analyze hospital financial and operational data to identify trends, variances, and performance drivers.
Support monthly close processes, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
Assist accountants with reconciliations, journal entry validation, and audit support.
Provide ad hoc analytical support to finance leadership.
Reporting & Visualization
Design, develop, and maintain standardized and ad hoc reports using SQL and other reporting tools.
Translate complex datasets into clear, concise narratives.
Create dashboards and visualizations that highlight key financial and operational metrics.
Ensure accuracy and timeliness of recurring reports and deliverables.
Systems & Tools
Work within EHR systems (e.g., Meditech, Cerner, Epic) to extract clinical and revenue-cycle data.
Utilize ERP systems (e.g., Infor, MultiView) to access financial, accounting, and operational datasets.
Build and optimize SQL queries for reporting and analysis.
Support integration and alignment between clinical and financial systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with accounting, revenue cycle, and operations teams to understand reporting needs.
Present findings in a clear, actionable format.
Serve as a subject matter expert on data sources and reporting logic for finance.
Work Experience, Education, and Certifications:
Experience in Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related field required.
3+ years of experience in financial analysis, preferably in a healthcare environment required.
Experience with healthcare EHR systems such as Meditech, Cerner, or Epic preferred.
Experience with ERP systems such as Infor or MultiView preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong proficiency in SQL, including query development and troubleshooting.
Experience working with large datasets and multiple data sources.
Knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
Ability to translate data into meaningful business insights.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
Familiarity with healthcare revenue cycle, cost accounting, or clinical data structures preferred.
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) preferred.
Understanding of healthcare regulatory and reimbursement environments preferred.
