The Michigan State University Office of Financial Aid seeks two highly motivated individuals to join our team as Financial Aid Assistants. Successful candidates will: assist in analyzing family and student financial information to determine financial aid eligibility, resolve compound financial aid issues and counsel others on the process and outcome, determine when exceptions to Federal, State, and Institutional policies can be made, serve as a resource to staff, assist in delivering formal and informal presentations, and developing and creating office processes and procedures under close supervision.
Chosen applicants will need to report to campus in-person until it is determined by the supervisor(s) that all training goals are met and, at that time, a hybrid schedule will be considered.
This position will fill 2 vacancies.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in financial aid and ability to understand, apply and interpret Federal and State regulations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A bachelor's degree in a related field; experience in counseling with college-bound or college level student populations, including working with individuals, the public, and student services; willingness and ability to travel; excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and responsibilities; knowledge and experience with Microsoft products such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word.
