The Financial Accountant plays a key role in driving transformation reporting, financial accounting for Empowerment entities, procurement governance and broker-related reporting across OMIG. The role takes ownership of the B-BBEE scorecard process and supports the firm's transformation agenda, while ensuring sound accounting, audit and compliance outcomes across multiple OMIG entities.
Reporting to the Finance Manager within OMIG Finance, and working closely with various teams, procurement, risk, internal and external auditors, trustees and verification agencies, the role helps ensure financial accuracy, governance and transparency across the trusts, holding structures and procurement processes that support the OMIG business, while supporting the OMIG Chief Financial Officer and Finance Manager with ad-hoc project work as required.
What You’ll Be Trusted With
FSC Reporting, Certification & Transformation
- Pro-actively manage the overall B-BBEE scorecard process, tracking progress of all B-BBEE elements based on the current amended FSC and DTI Codes, and associated reporting.
- Manage relationships with internal and external transformation stakeholders, including ASISA, the verification agency and consultants.
- Present the scorecard to OMIG EXCO and identify strategies and areas of improvement on an ongoing basis.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the legislative environment and amended Codes, and their implications for OMIG.
- Identify risks to scorecard targets and propose strategies to ensure maximum points are achieved, including the proactive sourcing of new SED and ESD beneficiaries and alternatives.
- Manage Enterprise & Supplier Development (ESD) and Socio-Economic Development (SED) programmes, including initiatives such as Edusaver, IFA, Consumer Education, Green Hands and Graduation of Supplier.
- Compile Social Development reports for internal and external consumption, and contribute to broader transformation initiatives and proposals (e.g. funding programmes and CSI alignment).
Accounting | OMIG Green Hands, Imfundo Trust & Imfundo SPV
- Maintain a system of appropriate internal controls across the trusts and holding structures.
- Review, prepare and load invoices for payment.
- Prepare Annual Financial Statements (AFS) and supporting schedules, and liaise with auditors to complete audits and sign off the AFS.
- Prepare all tax calculations, tax submission, file annual tax returns and submit payments. Liaise with group for assistance as necessary.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial models, reconciliations and ownership-structure analyses to support trustee and management decision-making.
- Manage annual budgeting and cash flow projections across the entities.
- Manage inter-entity transactions across the trust and SPV structures, including dividends from the Imfundo SPV to the Imfundo Trust.
- Understand the Trust Deeds and ensure ongoing compliance, and issue s18A certificates to donors.
- Present management accounts and other relevant feedback at trustee and board meetings.
- Engage with Corporate Secretarial on statutory and governance matters to ensure ongoing compliance across the entities.
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain procurement processes to ensure OMIG meets the Old Mutual Group Procurement Policy and Standards, including regular screening requirements, with any deviations agreed, documented and approved.
- Manage the end-to-end vendor onboarding process, ensuring all suppliers complete the required B-BBEE vetting and Group onboarding requirements (including updates to vendor forms) before services are procured.
- Coordinate vendor due diligence, screening and risk assessments, and support stakeholders through onboarding - particularly with Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) requirements.
- Maintain accurate vendor master data, active vendor listings and supporting documentation.
- Manage the internal OMIG Procurement SharePoint site as a central resource for teams.
- Attend the quarterly Procurement Forum and Third-Party Risk Management Forum, representing OMIG and ensuring alignment with Group standards.
- Perform quarterly analysis of B-BBEE procurement spend, investigate anomalies and identify opportunities to use preferred suppliers to enhance the overall OMIG scorecard.
Commission Sharing Agreements (CSAs), Allocations & Broker Reporting
- Develop and maintain the OMIG Broker Policy, updating it as required, and perform monthly reconciliations for each broker.
- Oversee CSA processes including allocation tracking, liquidity management and recovery of research-related invoices.
- Calculate the amount available to spend, communicate it to the investment teams and agree payments per research provider and which wallet to fund from.
- Stay up to date with global trends in broker research and ensure OMIG remains aligned to global best practice.
- Prepare broker statements and reporting packs on a periodic basis, and deal with internal and external audit queries.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as a key liaison between Finance, Procurement, internal and external stakeholders.
Process Improvement & Automation
Drive automation and efficiency improvements across CSA tracking, reporting and vendor management processes.
Who you are
You are a detail-oriented finance professional with a strong sense of ownership who thrives at the intersection of accounting, governance and transformation. You enjoy working across functions, simplifying complex processes and bringing rigour to reporting that supports decision-making by management, trustees and the broader business.
You bring:
- A relevant qualification such as BCom or Business Science, with a focus on finance.
- At least 3–6 years of proven work experience in a finance role; experience in the financial services industry is advantageous.
- Strong financial accounting skills, including the preparation of Annual Financial Statements, budgets and finance projects.
- Experience in B-BBEE and DTI verification is an advantage.
- Experience in procurement governance, vendor onboarding and Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) is an advantage.
- Exposure to investment-related processes (e.g. Commission Sharing Agreements and broker research allocations) is advantageous.
- Proficiency in MS Excel (advanced), MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Outlook, and proven experience generating accurate and timely reports using Excel, Word and other relevant systems.
