Finance Technician I - Transit


About the Job: In this special, at-will position, you will provide administrative support and be responsible for a variety of accounting functions. As a key member of the Transit team, you'll process invoices, payments, adjustments, and customer refunds.

This is a special at-will position funded by a FTA grant received by Transit annually.

As a Finance Technician I for the Transit department, you will:

  • Process bus pass ticket sale orders (including billing customer), payments, invoices, adjustments, customer refunds, bankruptcy notices, credit card chargebacks, and journal entries in a timely manner
  • Manage monthly petty cash replenishment; conduct monthly petty cash audits
  • Prepare a variety of reports using PeopleSoft and Excel
  • Process and post daily reposits including farebox revenue, ticket sales, and online credit card payment
  • Count farebox cash collections and refill Ticket Vending Machine cash
  • Log checks, cash payments, and reconcile bank corrections
  • Complete monthly processes, including Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority invoices for reimbursement
  • Enter Federal Transit Administration reimbursement in the Electronic Clearing House Operating system
  • Interact with customers and respond to vendor inquiries
  • Complete travel authorizations for Transit staff; complete per diem reimbursements, and monitor monthly P-Card transactions
  • Maintain and order office supplies and source other minor purchases as needed
  • Provide backup to other finance staff as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:

  • Basic principles of business mathematics
  • Accounting principles and practices
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment
  • Cash handling procedures

Ability to:

  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy while working in a demanding and highly interactive team environment
  • Quickly become proficient in a variety of computer software
  • Adhere to and meet strict deadlines
  • Understand pertinent City policies and procedures
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Handle and count money (gloves and masks are provided)
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing

Examples of duties

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
  • One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field
