About the Role (Permanent, Full Time – 40 hours per week)
Looking for a role with variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to build broad finance experience? Join the team at Mackenzie District Council as our next Finance Support Officer.
This is a busy and rewarding role within our supportive Finance team where no two days are quite the same. You’ll play an important part in keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, providing support across a range of finance functions including accounting, payroll, fleet management, and rates administration.
Whether you’re already experienced in finance support or looking to develop your career in a local government environment, this role offers the chance to work across multiple areas of the Finance department and make a genuine contribution to the organisation and wider community.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting in the preparation and development of monthly financial reports for management, Council, and associated committees
Supporting the monthly reconciliation process for all balance sheet accounts to ensure timely and accurate verification of balances
Assisting the Payroll and Creditors Officer with accounts payable processes, ensuring suppliers are paid accurately and on time
Supporting the fortnightly payroll process
Assisting the Senior Revenue Officer with Council rating system functions and processes
Preparing bank account reconciliations to the general ledger as part of the end-of-month processing timetable
Supporting the Management Accountant with the administration of Council’s vehicle fleet
About You
We’re looking for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative team environment, takes pride in accuracy, and is willing to jump in wherever support is needed. You’ll bring a positive attitude, strong organisational skills, and either proven finance experience or a genuine passion for building a career in finance.
You will also have:
A qualification in accounting or a related field (preferred), or at least two years’ experience in a similar role
Strong time management and prioritisation skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
The ability to work well within a team and provide excellent internal customer service
Sound written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated computer literacy across the MS Office suite, ERP systems, and online document management systems (such as Laserfiche)
