As the Finance Lead for Japan within Johnson & Johnson MedTech’s Heart Recovery business, this role leads the Japan Commercial Finance agenda and partners closely with cross-functional leaders to drive business growth and disciplined decision-making. The Finance Manager will own the Japan P&L performance management and planning cadence, deliver high-quality insights and reporting to leadership, and ensure timely and accurate close in collaboration with the Shared Service Center and regional/global stakeholders. This position also provides day-to-day leadership and coaching to one direct report.

This is a key business partnering role requiring strong stakeholder management across Commercial, Marketing, Sales, and other functions in Japan, as well as effective collaboration with APAC Finance and Global teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the annual budget cycle and the two planning processes (e.g., mid-year and year-end), engaging functional leaders to develop robust assumptions, scenarios, and timely updates.

  • Provide valuable, action-oriented reporting and insights to Japan management, including monthly P&L performance tracking, variance analysis, and key drivers.

  • Identify, quantify, and communicate P&L risks and opportunities; recommend countermeasures to maximize business performance.

  • Drive investment allocation discussions to optimize spend effectiveness and support growth priorities.

  • Respond promptly and effectively to ad-hoc inquiries and initiatives from APAC Finance and Global/HQ stakeholders.

  • Partner with the Shared Service Center to execute accurate and timely monthly and quarterly close, including accruals, compliance with policies, and reconciliations as required.

  • Strengthen commercial finance processes, governance, and internal controls; continuously improve reporting and planning quality.

  • Coach and develop one direct report, providing clear priorities, feedback, and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field; MBA/CPA/USCPA/CMA a plus.

  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, commercial finance, or business controlling, ideally within medical devices, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or other matrixed multinational environments.

  • Strong understanding of P&L management, budgeting/forecasting, and financial analysis; ability to translate data into clear business recommendations.

  • Experience leading planning cycles and partnering with senior stakeholders across functions.

  • Working knowledge of month-end and quarter-end close processes and collaboration with Shared Service/Center of Excellence teams.

  • High learning agility, strong ownership, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication skills in Japanese and English (Business-level) to interact with Japan leadership and APAC/Global stakeholders.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems (e.g., ERP and planning tools); Power BI or similar analytics tools preferred.
