Compensation Range:

$108,483.00 - $162,725.00

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Serves as a critical member of the School or College finance team with specific responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, and analysis of budget, including detailed, complex analyses and monitoring of all faculty and staff salary components and tracking of startup and research commitments as well as monitoring of non-salary departmental budget performance. Serves as the chief financial liaison with departments regarding financial issues and advises the SFO and the Dean on a myriad of budgetary and financial issues. Collaborates with the SFO and other senior officers and deans within the school, as well as officers throughout the university in interpreting and applying University and School policies and practices, and setting and accomplishing University and school goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops, prepares, and submits for approval components of the annual operating budgets for all academic and administrative units within the School. Collaborates with the SFO, deans, chairs, directors, and administrative staff in understanding department and program needs, mandates, and plans financial resources and budget requirements. Provides interpretation and guidance on the use of restricted endowments and gifts. Financial liaison with University Budget, Human Resources, Audit, and Controller's Offices and Advancement. Identifies problems and issues that adversely impact the achievement of the school’s long-term financial goals. Develops solutions to remedy the financial impact of those problems and issues.
  • Ensures that financial resources are in alignment with operating and programmatic needs, and provides sufficient support to achieve plans and goals. Continually monitors and reports on the status of the operating budgets, and grants. Prepares monthly and quarterly forecasts of financial performance. Develops strategies and tactics to ensure adherence to financial targets. Ensures compliance with applicable university operating and budget management policies, including grant management, FAO reconciliations, and other audit policies. Assists in the development and preparation of multi-year financial planning models that depict all aspects of SAS long-term financial outlook.
  • Brings intractable situations to the attention of the SFO and actively participates with him to develop strategies and tactics that will overcome those problems and issues. Collaborates with deans and other senior officers to develop and prioritize short-term and long-term goals, plans, and tactics. Identifies and encumbers financial resources that will ensure successful outcomes. Melds implementation into the operating, capital, and endowment budgets. Identifies and addresses situations that present obstacles to successful outcomes. Collaborates with the Sr. Associate Vice Provost for Budget Operations and other financial officers in the Academic Services Division to share data and information that might have an effect on financial plans and operations of other academic units
  • Partners with the SFO in the administration of the capital budget process by creating and disseminating submission templates, collecting results, and publishing approval letters.
  • Reviews and approves various journal entries. Collaborates with Faculty Affairs in reviewing and approving various personnel action forms. Performs periodic timekeeping reviews for hourly staff and acts as emergency backup time approver for departments. Carries out research and prepares analytical reports on special problems with recommendations for program or policy changes, as directed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related work experience required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
