Job Description

We are currently seeking a suitably qualified person to fill a vacancy, based at Lanseria International Airport.

The main objective of the position is to provide strategic and operational leadership for the finance function within the aviation division and across African regional entities. Responsibilities include managing finance staff, preparing, analysing and verifying accurate financial reports, and delivering timely information to Managing Directors, Group Finance Director, and Group CFO to support business decisions. The role requires compliance with statutory, regulatory, and group policies and supports financial planning, risk management, and sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit monthly management packs, including Manco reporting and Group submissions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate input into Cognos and other reporting systems.
  • Deliver monthly financial reports to the MDs and Group FD/CFO.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis (actual vs budget vs forecast).
  • Review and update forecasts in line with operational developments.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and Group reporting policies.
  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of all financial reports.
  • Lead and coordinate the annual budgeting process across all divisions.
  • Develop aircraft assumptions and financial models aligned to strategic objectives.
  • Consolidate and review budgets for overall reasonableness and economic alignment.
  • Present budgets at Manco and Group level.
  • Ensure timely submission of budgets to Group Finance.
  • Align financial planning with market conditions, competitor trends, and industry outlook.
  • Monitor and control expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Implement corrective actions for cost overruns.
  • Prepare business cases for unplanned expenditure and CAPEX approvals.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives aligned with company objectives.
  • Minimize write-offs and ensure adherence to financial policies.
  • Oversee provisional and annual tax submissions.
  • Ensure compliance with VAT, income tax, employee tax, SARS Passenger Taxes, and Customs VAT.
  • Manage IT14SD submissions and SARS engagements.
  • Ensure all statutory submissions meet legislated deadlines.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce and strengthen internal control frameworks.
  • Liaise with external auditors and manage audit processes.
  • Design and implement internal audit programs and sampling techniques.
  • Identify financial and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure policy compliance across the finance function.
  • Oversee asset management and sustainable financial governance.
  • Manage debtors and creditors processes.
  • Optimize working capital and cash flow forecasting.
  • Authorize payments and oversee banking access controls.
  • Manage foreign exchange exposure and interest optimization.
  • Oversee CAPEX approvals within budget parameters.
  • Monitor aging, supplier payment days, and bad debt exposure.
  • Prepare and revise monthly Balance Sheet and Income Statement forecasts.
  • Collaborate with divisional managers to ensure forecast accuracy.
  • Analyse performance against forecast and budget.
  • Develop and maintain advanced financial models in Excel and Cognos.
  • Assess business risks and economic factors impacting forecasts.
  • Act as strategic financial advisor to Managing Directors.
  • Provide financial insights to support operational and growth decisions.
  • Engage with auditors, banks, tax authorities, investors, and consultants.
  • Identify and manage business risks.
  • Support strategic planning and long-term value creation.
  • Perform monthly profitability analysis per aircraft and revenue stream.
  • Analyze fleet performance against budget and forecast.
  • Present revenue and profitability insights to divisional heads.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to optimize fleet returns.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team.
  • Manage performance contracts, annual reviews, and disciplinary processes.
  • Ensure continuous training and upskilling.
  • Promote high staff morale and accountability.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and deadlines.
  • Foster a high-performance, empowered finance function.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of Annual Financial Statements in accordance with IFRS and Companies Act requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance of all statutory disclosures.
  • Manage the year-end audit process and act as primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Review technical accounting matters and ensure appropriate treatment and disclosure.
  • Present AFS to Directors and support Board approval process.
  • Ensure timely submission to regulatory authorities (CIPC, SARS, etc.).

Educational & Experience

  • BCom Accounting / Financial Management (minimum).
  • Honours / Postgraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
  • Registered Professional Accountant (e.g., SAICA AGA, SAIPA) – advantage.
  • CA(SA)/ CIMA –preferable.
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ progressive financial management experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience in strategic financial leadership, partnering with executive management and board-level stakeholders.
  • Experience in the aviation industry or a complex, multi-entity environment (highly advantageous).
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and long-term strategic planning.
  • Strong background in statutory reporting, IFRS, tax compliance and regulatory oversight.
  • Experience managing external audits, internal controls, and risk management frameworks.
  • Proven track record in cash flow management, working capital optimisation and cost control initiatives.
  • Experience in leading and developing finance teams, including performance management and succession planning.
  • Exposure to group reporting structures and multinational environments (advantageous).
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Accpac/Sage) and reporting tools (e.g., Cognos or similar BI systems).
