Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an analytically minded and commercially focused Finance Business Partner to support our Participant Journey function. This role sits at the heart of one of the most important areas of Our Future Health, helping to shape the financial plans and decisions that support the recruitment and retention of millions of participants across the UK.

Despite big improvements in healthcare in our lifetimes, today millions of people in the UK still live in poor health as they get older. Diseases like cancer, dementia, diabetes, and heart disease affect the lives of many people in our communities. Our goal is to create a world-leading resource for health research, to improve our understanding and spot the patterns of how and why common diseases start, so treatments can begin sooner and be more effective.

Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent, and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.

What you'll be doing

In this role, you will partner closely with our Participant Journey leadership team, providing financial insight, challenge and support to help deliver one of the largest health research programmes in the world. You will play a key role in forecasting, scenario modelling, contract management and business planning, helping stakeholders make informed decisions in a complex and evolving environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the end-to-end forecasting of Participant Journey expenditure, one of the organisation's largest areas of spend.
  • Developing and enhancing forecasting models and undertaking scenario analysis to support decisions on participant recruitment strategies and operational delivery.
  • Producing robust budgets and forecasts that combine operational understanding with financial insight.
  • Identifying and communicating risks and opportunities arising from budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Partnering closely with Participant Journey leaders to support delivery of operational objectives and improve financial decision-making.
  • Producing insightful monthly reporting and analysis, challenging assumptions and helping budget holders improve forecast accuracy.
  • Developing and monitoring key Participant Journey financial metrics, ensuring they remain accurate and relevant across different participant cohorts.
  • Reviewing supplier and partner contracts to assess financial implications and ensure sufficient flexibility to respond to changes in forecast demand.
  • Building and maintaining contract reporting models to monitor supplier performance and validate charges.
  • Supporting the development of business cases for new initiatives, projects and delivery models.
  • Undertaking scenario analysis to assess the impact of different participant recruitment and enrolment profiles on organisational funding and expenditure.
  • Providing financial insight to Steering Committees and other governance forums, ensuring financial considerations are embedded in decision-making.
  • Collaborating with other Finance Business Partners to develop programme-focused forecasting and reporting that reflects how the organisation operates.
  • Supporting Executive, Committee and Board reporting, as well as providing ad hoc support to the wider Finance team when required.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who combines strong financial and analytical capability with excellent business partnering skills. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with complexity, uncertainty and large datasets, whilst building trusted relationships with stakeholders across the organisation.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and/or Finance Business Partnering.
  • Strong financial modelling and scenario planning skills.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning processes.
  • The ability to interpret complex operational information and translate it into meaningful financial insight.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to provide both support and constructive challenge.
  • Experience developing business cases and supporting investment decisions.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to work effectively in a changing environment.
  • A recognised accounting qualification or equivalent relevant experience.

Desirable

  • Experience working in healthcare, life sciences, research, logistics, operational delivery or similarly complex environments.
  • Experience working with supplier contracts, commercial arrangements or procurement activities.
  • An interest in health research and improving health outcomes through data and science.
