Job Description

The West Coast Eagles is an iconic Australian sporting brand with over 100,000 members. The Club formed in August 1986, playing its first official match for premiership points in 1987. Our women's side played its first game for AFLW premiership points in February 2020. Since then, the club has enjoyed significant success, winning premierships in 1992, 1994, 2006 and 2018. The club also has wide-spanning community and regional programs and is invested in a number of charity organisations, including the Waalitj Foundation.

About the role

The role is a 12 month contract (maternity leave) that works closely with budget owners across the Club to help manage costs, assess spending proposals and keep financial information clear and useful. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will be responsible for:

  • Acting as the finance partner to cost owners across the Club, working with leaders to prepare and manage budgets and rolling forecasts, making sure cost drivers, assumptions and trade-offs are understood.
  • Leading and supporting a small team responsible for Accounts Payable, ensuring controls are maintained and service levels meet business needs.
  • Assembling half‑year and year‑end financial statements, acting as the lead on the Audit process.
  • Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring balances are supported, understood and issues are identified early.
  • Preparing and coordinating the Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) return and related supporting schedules, ensuring accuracy and alignment with underlying financial records.
  • Leading or contributing to incremental improvements in finance systems and tools, including automation and workflow enhancements that improve data quality, timeliness and reliability
  • Supporting effective cash management and treasury governance through accurate reporting, forecasting and hands‑on execution.

Due to the nature of the industry, there is a requirement to work some home match days and other club events which will include working some evenings and weekends.

Our ideal person This role is ideal for a detail‑driven, organised finance professional with strong planning skills and a continuous improvement mindset, who can deliver decision‑ready reporting, meet critical deadlines, and enhance processes in a small‑team environment. Additionally, it would be ideal if you had:

  • Strong commercial finance partnering skills, with the ability to translate financial results into clear business implications.
  • Advanced analytical, forecasting and modelling capability; confidence with scenario and sensitivity analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial finance / business partnering.
  • Strong budgeting, rolling forecasting and revenue analytics experience, including driver-based analysis.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; able to provide constructive challenge and influence outcomes.
  • Sound judgement, practical problem-solving and a willingness to do the analysis and reporting.
  • Continuous improvement mindset; comfortable improving processes, reporting and automation in a small-team environment.
  • Proven leadership experience and leading outcomes in a collaborative environment is advantageous.
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline (CA/CPA preferred).

Since then, the club has enjoyed significant success , winning premierships in 1992, 1994, 2006 and 2018.

Based at Mineral Resources Park in Lathlain, West Coast boasts a proud tradition of success on and off the field which can be attributed to its many loyal members and corporate partners.
