Job Description

Apartment Therapy was originally launched in 2001 by interior designer Maxwell Ryan (nicknamed “The Apartment Therapist”) as a weekly newsletter for clients. We officially became an independently-owned company in 2004, and since then Apartment Therapy Media has grown to become the only media group dedicated to life at home. We are committed to teaching our audience real-life solutions by giving them tools to create happy, healthy homes through our award-winning brands: Apartment Therapy, The Kitchn, Cubby, and Dorm Therapy. Together, our portfolio engages a monthly audience of 47 million users across platforms, while our dedicated team of over 140 professionals collaborates from our sunny New York City office and locations across the U.S. and around the globe.

Apartment Therapy Media is seeking a Finance Associate to support the day-to-day financial operations of the company, with a focus on accounts payable, payroll and benefits accounting, and the monthly close. The position works in coordination with the company’s external accounting partners and is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of expense-side transactions and the systems that support them. This position reports to the Director of Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable in coordination with external accounting partner, including invoice coding and posting in QuickBooks Online, exception resolution and approvals in Ramp, and vendor records and inquiries
  • Process contractor invoices from TalentDesk, employee reimbursements, and year-end Form 1099 preparation
  • Review payroll journal entries, record benefit invoices, and reconcile payroll- and benefits-related accounts, including payroll tax remittances
  • Perform assigned steps on the monthly close checklist, including reconciliations, supporting documentation for external accounting partners, and accrual and prepaid expense schedules
  • Respond to internal expense inquiries, support deal-level P&L reporting, and prepare data for the monthly cash review
  • Operate and monitor automated finance workflows, resolve and escalate exceptions, and maintain Cube data and process documentation
  • Assist with other finance-related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting, accounts payable, or finance operations
  • Working knowledge of accounting fundamentals, including reconciliations and accruals
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online or a comparable accounting system
  • Strong proficiency in Google Sheets/Excel
  • Comfort learning new systems and automation tools, including AI tools
  • Strong attention to detail and written communication; ability to work independently in a lean, fast-moving environment
  • Experience with Ramp or a comparable spend management platform, or in media/advertising is a plus

Budgeted Salary: $70,000 - 75,000 annually

The above represents the expected salary range for this role. Ultimately, compensation is determined by level of experience and other job-related factors.
