Babban Gona — 'Great Farm' in Hausa — is Africa's largest maize producing entity, farming an area equivalent to 12 Manhattans. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to prosper, free from poverty and ensuing violence. At the heart of West Africa's rising insecurity are unemployed youth at risk of being recruited to conduct violent acts. Just as oxygen is to fire, so are unemployed youth to insurgencies.
At Babban Gona, we disrupt this cycle. Our innovative technology platform and franchise model makes farming dramatically more profitable for smallholder farmers — doubling yields, nearly tripling net incomes, and turning at-risk youth into successful agricultural entrepreneurs. We have supported over 110,000 farming families, disbursed more than $200M in smallholder loans, and maintained a 99.9% repayment rate. We are now building the team to reach 10 million families by 2030. Transform your career. Join a movement. Know that every report you file, every account you reconcile, and every number you verify contributes to one of the most consequential social enterprises on the planet.
This role sits at the heart of our Finance Operations team, responsible for the daily tasks that underpin every financial decision the organisation makes: accurate reconciliations, timely month-end close support, disciplined accounts payable and receivable management, and meticulous record-keeping in Odoo. In an organisation where trust with DFI investors like KfW, FMO, and BIO depends on the integrity of our financial data, this role matters far more than its title suggests.
This is an ideal role for a sharp, detail-obsessed early-career finance professional who wants to build deep operational finance expertise inside one of the most impactful social enterprises in Africa — and grow with the organisation as it scales.
Perform daily and weekly bank and cash reconciliations, ensuring all discrepancies are identified, investigated, and resolved within agreed timelines.
Process and record accounts payable transactions in Odoo, verifying documentation, approval workflows, and coding accuracy before posting.
Manage accounts receivable tracking, following up on outstanding items and escalating aged receivables in line with the Finance team's protocols.
Maintain accurate, well-organised financial records and documentation for all transactions processed, ensuring full audit readiness at all times.
Month-End Close Support
Support the Senior Finance Associate in executing the month-end close process, completing assigned tasks within the agreed close calendar.
Prepare and post standard journal entries, accruals, and prepayments with supporting documentation.
Perform balance sheet account reconciliations at month-end, flagging unexplained variances for review.
Compile supporting schedules and workpapers that feed into management accounts and financial reporting.
System & Process Integrity
Maintain the integrity of financial data within Odoo — ensuring records are accurate, complete, and consistently coded in line with the chart of accounts.
Identify and escalate any data anomalies, system errors, or process gaps observed during routine operations.
Support Finance team process improvement initiatives by documenting procedures and flagging inefficiencies.
Internal Collaboration & Reporting
Respond promptly to internal queries from the Finance team regarding transaction details, documentation, and account balances.
Assist with the preparation of periodic finance reports and schedules as directed by the Senior Finance Associate or Financial Controller.
Participate actively in Finance team reviews, bringing observations from daily operations to improve team understanding of financial flows.

The story of Babban Gona is one of transformation. We are a high-impact, financially sustainable, and rapidly scalable agricultural social enterprise that is revolutionizing smallholder farming across Nigeria.
We saw what many overlooked: that farmers, often trapped in cycles of low yields and poverty, were capable of extraordinary things. So, we built something different. We built a social enterprise designed to scale; a business that blends impact with sustainability, profit with purpose.
Over the years, we have grown not just in numbers, but in vision. With support from partners like Nestlé, DfID, AGRA, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Skoll, GIZ, USAID, The Mastercard Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, IFAD, Global Partnerships, and EDFI AgriFi, we created an agricultural franchise model that has changed the game.
Through this model, we have helped smallholder farmers—men and women across Northern Nigeria—double their yields and incomes, access quality inputs, financing, training, and markets. We have built trust, and in return, they have achieved an astounding 99% loan repayment rate.
Today, our story continues with greater momentum than ever:
- We have disbursed over $250 million in financing to farmers
- We are managing over 100,000 metric tons in storage capacity
- We have cultivated over 200,000 hectares sustainably
And we are not done yet.
Our eyes are set on the future—50 million smallholder farmers by 2043.
This is more than just agriculture. It is about restoring dignity to farming, feeding nations, empowering women, and unlocking prosperity across rural Africa.
We are Babban Gona!
