ABOUT THE ROLE

The Field Welding Intern supports field welding operations on active construction projects while gaining hands-on experience working alongside experienced welders. This role involves traveling to various job sites, assisting with the installation and welding of structural components, and helping ensure work is completed safely and to quality standards. The intern will develop practical field welding skills, learn industry safety requirements, and gain exposure to construction projects in a dynamic, outdoor environment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Travel to project sites as needed to support field welding operations
  • Assist experienced welders with fitting, aligning, and welding structural components
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications
  • Perform basic welding and tack welding under supervision
  • Use measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure proper fit-up
  • Assist with equipment setup, material staging, and project preparation
  • Safely use hand and power tools related to welding and steel erection activities
  • Support installation and repair activities in active construction environments
  • Follow site-specific safety requirements and participate in safety meetings
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate is motivated to learn and build a career in field welding and construction. They are safety-conscious, dependable, and eager to develop hands-on welding skills while working alongside experienced professionals. This individual takes direction well, works effectively as part of a team, and is comfortable working in active construction environments and varying weather conditions.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a welding-related technical program, or actively pursuing a technical degree in welding
  • Experience with Stick Welding (SMAW)
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, welding drawings, and construction documents
  • Ability to successfully pass a 3G and 4G welding test upon hire
  • Ability to complete required fall protection training and safely work at heights
  • Willingness and ability to travel to and work from various construction project sites
  • Reliable transportation and ability to commute to assigned work locations
  • Strong commitment to safety and following established procedures
  • Eagerness to learn and develop field welding skills in an active construction environment

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally and frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, squatting, crawling, and repetitive hand/arm use
  • Capable of standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for extended shifts of up to 12 hours
  • Comfortable working at heights using ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and man lifts frequently
  • Ability to work safely in a production or field environment with moderate to high exposure to safety risks and hazards
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including wet, hot, humid, and cold weather, and outdoors (Depending on location)
  • Ability to wear all required PPE, including but not limited to safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility vest, hard hat, and other PPE as required by the task, department, or work area.
