Job Description

Audubon is currently seeking a Field Technician to join our team. The Field Technician is responsible for performing both inspection and remediation activities on exposed natural gas pipelines at assigned locations. Technicians will assess pipeline conditions, document findings electronically, and perform required remediation work in compliance with Company standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspection Activities

  • Perform detailed inspections of exposed gas mains, including:
    • Coating condition
    • Pipe condition (where visible)
    • Supports, isolation, and labeling
  • Conduct inspections in various environments, including bridges, confined spaces, and elevated structures.
  • Accurately capture inspection results using Company-approved mobile devices and software.
  • Identify and document deficiencies requiring remediation.

Remediation Activities

Perform assigned remediation work at the same locations as inspection, including but not limited to:

  • Cleaning and re-wrapping pipeline coatings
  • Cleaning and painting vertical risers
  • Installing or replacing FRP shields
  • Sealing bridge end walls
  • Wrapping soil-to-air interfaces
  • Installing new supports and hangers
  • Installing cathodic protection test stations
  • Clearing debris to enable safe inspection and maintenance
  • Performing minor excavation as required
  • Apply coatings and materials per manufacturer and Company specifications.
  • Ensure all installations (coatings, supports, shields) meet quality and safety standards.

Leak Survey & Safety Response

  • Perform leak surveys using combustible gas indicators (CGI).
  • Immediately report and respond appropriately to any detected gas leaks, following emergency protocols.
  • Maintain situational awareness and ensure safe work practices at all times.

Work Execution & Compliance

  • Execute all work in accordance with:
    • Company Operating Procedure Manual (OPM)
    • Regulatory requirements (e.g., 49 CFR Part 192)
    • Project-specific Work Orders
  • Follow all traffic control plans and roadway safety requirements.
  • Adhere to confined space entry procedures when applicable.
  • Maintain proper documentation, including photos, GPS data, and electronic records.

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate daily activities with Project Manager and field leadership.
  • Communicate with Company representatives (e.g., Corrosion Technicians) before and after work at each site.
  • Support quality inspections and obtain required approvals prior to demobilization.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • Hold an active AMPP CIP Level 1 certification.
  • Experience in pipeline maintenance, utility construction, or similar field work.
  • Ability to perform both inspection and hands-on remediation tasks.
  • Ability to use mobile devices for data entry and reporting.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.

Preferred

  • Hold an active AMPP CIP Level 2 certification.
  • Operator Qualification (OQ) certification or ability to obtain.
  • Experience with pipeline coating systems (e.g., wax tape, epoxy coatings).
  • Knowledge of cathodic protection systems and installation.
  • Familiarity with leak survey equipment (CGI).
  • Knowledge of State DOT traffic control plans and work in roadway environments.
  • Experience working in confined spaces and elevated structures.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and handle tools and materials.
  • Ability to climb, kneel, bend, and work in confined or elevated spaces.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including excavation and coating application.

Working Conditions

  • Field-based role with travel across project locations.
  • Work may include bridges, roadways, waterways, and confined spaces.
  • May require flexible hours based on permits and project needs.
