Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking Principal / Sr Principal Field Engineers This position is in Roy, UTAH and supports the Sentinel program

What You’ll Do:

Install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot, transport, and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment for Sentinel deployments. This role emphasizes fleet tracking, coordination, and inventory management to support timely, safe, and compliant field operations. Initial travel will be ~10%, with potential increase to 50%+ in the future.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and commission Sentinel weapons system.

• Troubleshoot and repair electronic, mechanical, and networked equipment at deployment sites.

• Transport, receive, stage, vehicles, tools, and equipment for deployments; ensure secure handling and proper documentation.

• Own fleet tracking operations: manage telematics/SaaS hardware (e.g., Samsara), maintain live tracking dashboards, and validate data integrity.

• Coordinate vehicle reservations, dispatch, maintenance scheduling, and vehicle preparation for missions.

• Maintain and manage inventory: perform periodic audits, cycle counts, tagging, and reconciliation of spares and consumables.

• Create, maintain, and follow SOPs, checklists, and calibration/maintenance schedules.

• Support logistics planning with Field Engineers and Managers to optimize asset utilization and minimize downtime.

• Perform preventive maintenance and calibration on tools and test equipment; coordinate external calibrations as required.

• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and company policies (including proper hazardous materials handling and OSHA guidelines).

Basic Qualifications:

Level 3 -

• High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience.

• 4+ years of hands-on experience installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting electronic/mechanical systems or field equipment.

• Demonstrated experience with system integration, transportation of complex equipment and field upgrades.

• Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills; ability to work under pressure.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for customer interaction and reporting.

• Willingness and ability to travel frequently and work at customer sites; flexible schedule.

• Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varied environmental conditions.

Level 4 -

• High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years additional education and/or related experience.

• 8+ years of hands-on experience installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting electronic/mechanical systems or field equipment.

• Demonstrated experience with system integration, transportation of complex equipment and field upgrades.

• Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills; ability to work under pressure.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for customer interaction and reporting.

• Willingness and ability to travel frequently and work at customer sites; flexible schedule.

• Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varied environmental conditions.

Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope

Preferred Qualifications:

• Technical certificate or associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering technology, mechanical technology, or related field preferred.

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record; ability to operate and drive large equipment/vehicles.

• Training or certification in safety, vehicle operation, or specialized equipment handling.

• Familiarity with remote diagnostic tools, test equipment, and standard maintenance practices.

Working Conditions

• Field-based role with frequent travel to customer sites, remote locations, and outdoor environments.

• Work may require climbing, lifting, working in confined spaces, and exposure to varying weather conditions and noise levels.

• Regular use of hand tools, test instrumentation, laptops/tablets, and transport vehicles or large field equipment.

Primary Level Salary Range: $57,500.00 - $95,900.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $68,300.00 - $113,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
