How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
Field Staff, Development & Engineering Services are responsible for various field operations, monitoring and data collection activities, routine maintenance work, and general construction duties in support of TRCA’s environmental research, inventory and monitoring programs and projects.

Major Responsibilities:
• Assists with planning and preparation for seasonal field activities. Carries out monitoring and data collection activities in support of TRCA’s programs. Participates in surveying, utilizing environmental monitoring instruments and equipment.
• Monitors groundwater wells, piezometers.
• Assists with fish and benthic invertebrates sampling, water quality data collection (e.g., collect water samples), sediment samples collection and other aquatic habitat data collection using standardized protocols.
• Assists with field observations, data recording, management, and specimen collection.
• Assists with activities involving the installation, operation and maintenance of environmental monitoring equipment and sampling gear
• Participates in daily safety meetings, including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning.
• Assists with monitoring activities, including data entry and management, records management, and other duties, as assigned.
• Assists with environmental data QA/QC and entry/input.
• Assists with various types of monitoring equipment, including boats, GPS units, hand-held water quality instruments and biological sampling equipment such as electrofisher units (boat and / or backpack) and various types of nets
• Assists with benthos samples processing in the lab

What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
• Minimum pursuing post-secondary diploma or degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or a related field
• Valid Class G2 driver’s license

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
• Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines; skilled in writing clear correspondence (concise, logical, grammatically correct)
• Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation
• Requires handling of aquatic organisms, including fish
• Ability to work safely in, on, and around water, including use of watercraft
• Requirements of the role require consistent movement and physicality – such as walking through vegetation, rough terrain and/or water bodies, stretching, jumping, digging as well as lifting (up to 30 to 50 lbs.) pushing/pulling items or other general strain are regularly expected during the period of work
• Knowledge of local aquatic fauna species and habitat
