Job Description

Field Service Technician 

Manage all field issues, installation training, and warranty programs

Essential Functions

  • Develop and conduct installation training programs both on site and in classroom settings. 
  • Modify and update installation manuals as necessary to maintain current information. 
  • Visit assigned job sites to ensure products are installed properly and in accordance with installation manuals. Train job site personnel to properly install IMPs as needed. 
  • Visit all major claims in the region and agree to corrective actions ensuring that such solutions are in the best interest of the business and all costs are correctly and fully justified. 
  • Identify issues at the job site and suggest new procedures to improve quality of products delivered.  
  • Create detailed job reports including pictures, description of products being installed, job site environment, and current or possible future issues with the products.  
  • Ensure excellence in customer service at the job site.  
  • Contact new customers on large scale projects. 
  • Plan, prioritize, and perform job site inspections, training, and repairs in the U.S. and internationally. 
  • Minimize travel expenses and combine trips as much as possible. 
  • Must be familiar with order process and an expert regarding use and installation of all products manufactured or sold by Company.  
  • Work closely with Technical Services and Quality Control on QC and R&D projects.  
  • Assist Operations with technical consults and provide feedback on warranty issues. 
  • Communicate regularly with Technical Services, Quality Control, and Engineering/Drafting as required. 
  • Train in house personnel on installation process and key characteristics of the product. Completes training by supervisor.
  • Complies with all safety and company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at different levels, i.e. with architects, building owners, contractors, installers, company directors and executives, etc, and to act in a professional and experienced manner.
  • Strong organizational skills with aggressive follow through.
  • High level is creativity with strong problem solving skills.
  • Excellent time management skills, including proper travel planning.
  • Good to excellent spelling, grammar, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone and oral communication skills.
  • Good negotiating skills and ability to act under pressure and diffuse or de-escalate difficult situations on site.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor degree preferred. 
  • One year experience in construction field services at a minimum.  
  • Experience installing metal panels, pre-engineered buildings, and/or sheet metal is preferred. 
  • Proficient in reading construction drawings and specifications.  Demonstrated aptitude will be considered in lieu of experience. 
  • Must be highly proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, and other software commonly used in this profession. 

Additional Qualifications

  • Must possess credit worthiness and a major credit card with a sufficient limit in order to maintain monthly travel expenses until reimbursed by the company. 
  • Must have the ability to secure a rental car and rental equipment. 
  • Must possess a valid passport. 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel extensively (95%)
  • Ability to work primarily outdoors in all climates in conditions typical of a construction site, including extreme temperatures, high humidity, dust, noise, and moving machinery. 
  • Ability to work at heights using fall protection equipment such as harnesses and lifts. 
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand for extended periods. Must be able to climb, bend, lift, twist, squat, stoop, kneel, reach, grasp, crouch, crawl, and other physical movements required to perform the essential functions of the job. 
  • Ability to talk and hear. 
  • Visual acuity, focus, and ability to discern color, texture, distance, depth, and view peripherally. 
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.  
  • Ability to read, write, type, and verbally communicate fluently in English. 
  • Must be able to effectively use a computer and related equipment. 
  • Must be able to use tools, equipment, machinery, etc. 
  • Hours of work will frequently need to be adjusted to accommodate travel to and from customer sites, customer requirements, and time zone differences. 

Working Environment

  • Frequent travel, up to 95%, is required by airplane, automobile, and other modes of economy class public transportation. 
  • This position operates primarily from jobsites and hotels, and, when not travelling, a home office environment. Other meeting sites such as professional offices, coffee shops and restaurants, and other public locations are likely. 
  • Appointments with customers and contractors will take place frequently outdoors in all climates on construction jobsites, as well as in public environments such as coffee shops and restaurants, and in offices. 
  • Electronic communication will take place on a company provided laptop via email, a company provided mobile phone by text and email, and other internet based forms of communication.  Primary phone contact will be made by company provided mobile phone. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise environments, chemicals used in the process, and extreme temperatures. The facility is an industrial manufacturing plant.
