The Field Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial chemical control systems. This position requires a high level of technical knowledge and experience in the fields of pumps, electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanics. The Field Technician must have a solid understanding of production chemical processes and be able to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics. They must have a strong knowledge of the principles of field automation control systems. The successful candidate must possess excellent problem solving and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and be able to work independently or as part of a team.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day support, preventive maintenance, programming, calibration, and development of chemical automation equipment for field locations to include well sites, saltwater disposal (SWD), compressor stations and tank batteries.
  • Installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of facility and wellsite communication equipment and instruments.
  • Apply expertise for installation, calibration, maintenance, and repairs of instrument, communication, and electrical equipment.
  • Execute planned maintenance checks and calibration and timely submit appropriate reports.
  • Lead automation failure analysis and recommendations going forward.
  • Utilize all company safe work practices when performing automation work.
  • Frequent communication with the operation team, SCADA/IT group, measurement, and engineering.
  • Handle sensitive information with confidentiality
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel up to 30%, is required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate degree in automation technology, robotics, instrumentation, electronics, or a related technical discipline; or a high school diploma or equivalent with relevant field experience and applicable technical certifications.
  • At least 4 years of automation experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or repairing chemical injection pumps.
  • Experience with field communication equipment, including cellular modems, radios, network switches, and related devices.
  • Chemical automation experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and acute attention to detail.
  • General computer competency and familiarity with Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with customers, operations teams, and internal technical groups.

Work Environment

  • Extended work hours beyond 40 hours per week may be required and include off-hours outside normal business times to cover callouts, emergencies, or high priority installs.
  • Physical Demands: Able to lift, carry, move up to 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Unpredictable, harsh, and outdoor work environment including exposure to noise, extreme temperatures, dirt, dangerous machinery, and other hazardous conditions requiring safety adherence and PPE equipment.
  • Must have the ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including flame-resistant clothing, safety glasses, gloves, and respiratory protection, as required.
