The Field Service Technician will be responsible for supporting the configuration, troubleshooting, repair and the deployment of proprietary technologies into water mains and sewer trunk mains for pipeline condition assessment by means of either pressurized (live) or depressurized methods of tool’s insertion, while working to maintain a safe work environment for self and others. In this role, the individual will also assist Senior Technicians with technical planning and coordination of the field activities. Has direct interfacing with customer and potentially works at multiple sites / with multiple technologies. Critical thinking in this role is a critical item.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Consistently apply appropriate procedures and processes with minimal direction from others
  • Operate tools and technology onsite under the supervision of qualified field technicians
  • Prepare basic documentation, tools and equipment for mobilization to project sites
  • Identify safety hazards and apply safe working practices to self and peers; keeps job site clean
  • Actively participate and may lead onsite safety and planning meetings to review safety risks and areas of concern based on planning documentation and onsite observations
  • Identify and troubleshoot simple technical issues, with support of qualified technicians
  • Delegate basic/repeatable tasks to entry level technicians
  • Empowered to raise observations/concerns and recognition to immediate team and leadership as required
  • Focus on continuous improvement by consistently looking for ways to improve and promote quality, efficacy, and safety
  • Complete daily timesheets and expense reports as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. Candidates with a three‑year Engineering Technologist Diploma may also be considered based on experience.
  • Up to 5 years of previous field experience with infrastructure or general construction projects
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Clean driving record
  • Mechanically inclined and good with hand tools
  • Previous experience with water utilities or municipalities a plus
  • Dedicated team player committed to safe and successful operations for everyone involved
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and/or maps and can translate to the field
  • Proven ability to complete assigned work in a timely manner with quality results
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Demonstrates intermediate math skills
  • Availability to work overtime, weekends and holidays when needed
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and/or maps and can translate to the field
  • Status in Canada: Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen
  • Up to 75% Travel within Canada with occasional travel to the U.S. and overseas
  • Clean record to travel to the U.S. when needed (U.S. Work VISA not required at this moment)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license; must have a reasonable driver’s record
  • Exhibit objectivity and openness to others’ views
  • Experience working directly with customers/clients, an asset

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with water system operations and/or pipeline inspection technologies a plus
  • Working at Heights / Fall Protection certification a plus
  • First Aid and CPR Class C certification a plus
  • Ability to work in confined space strongly desired. Confined Space Entry certification a plus

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to do physical work with long hours in the field
  • Be able to stand on feet for a prolonged amount of time
  • May need to bend, lift, carry and stretch to perform duties
  • Continually required to use hands and fingers and reach with arms
  • Frequently required to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Work requires ability to work outdoors in various weather, traffic and environmental conditions
