The Opportunity
The Field Service Superintendent is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and execution of field service operations across multiple skilled trades, including Electrical, HVAC, Generator, and Controls technicians. This position provides direct oversight of highly skilled and tenured technical personnel, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery while maintaining operational excellence, workforce productivity, and compliance with company standards.
The Field Service Superintendent serves as the primary field operations leader, driving accountability, resource planning, customer satisfaction, technician development, and continuous improvement initiatives while supporting business growth and profitability. This role works closely and collaboratively with Project Managers, Operations Leaders, and Customers to ensure service and project activities are properly staffed, executed efficiently, and remain on schedule. The Superintendent proactively identifies project risks, manpower constraints, and execution challenges, implementing corrective actions to minimize delays and ensure successful project completion.
The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills, broad technical knowledge across multiple building systems disciplines, and the ability to effectively manage experienced field professionals while fostering a culture centered on safety, quality, teamwork, and exceptional customer service.
What you will do?
Operational Leadership
- Lead and oversee daily field service operations across multiple technical disciplines, including electrical systems, HVAC systems, backup power/generator systems, and building automation/control systems.
- Direct supervision of Electrical Technicians, HVAC Technicians, Generator Technicians, Controls Technicians, Field Service Leads, and other assigned personnel.
- Responsible for hiring recommendations, performance management, employee development, corrective actions, and workforce planning.
- Coordinate manpower, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure efficient execution of field service work.
- Monitor service delivery performance, productivity, utilization, and customer response times.
- Collaborate with Operations, Project Management, and Customer to ensure seamless execution of customer requirements.
Team Management and Development
- Directly supervise and support Field Service Technicians.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical leadership to develop workforce capabilities
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide regular performance feedback.
- Identify training needs and coordinate technical and leadership development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Safety and Compliance
- Promote and enforce company safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct routine jobsite safety observations and field audits.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, customer-specific safety standards, and company policies.
- Lead investigations related to incidents, near misses, and safety concerns and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Maintain required documentation and regulatory records.
Customer Relationship Management
- Serve as a key customer contact for field service activities and escalation issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, facility managers, and stakeholders.
- Ensure customer concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.
- Support customer retention and identify opportunities for additional services and business growth.
Quality and Service Excellence
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company standards, industry best practices, manufacturer specifications, and applicable codes.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews and field inspections.
- Implement corrective actions to improve service quality and operational performance.
- Support standardization of processes and best practices across service operations.
Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities related to field service operations.
- Monitor labor utilization, overtime, travel costs, and operational expenses.
- Review timesheets, service documentation, and work orders for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with workforce planning, staffing needs, recruiting efforts, and onboarding activities.
- Track and report key operational metrics, including productivity, safety performance, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 8-10 years of progressive field service, maintenance, commissioning, construction, or technical operations experience.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory or management experience leading multi-discipline technical teams.
- Experience managing electrical, HVAC, generator, critical power, controls, or mission-critical facility service operations.
- Experience in data centers, industrial facilities, healthcare, manufacturing, or critical infrastructure environments preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, HVAC systems, emergency power generation, controls, and building automation systems.
- Proven leadership and team development capabilities.
- Strong organizational, planning, and scheduling skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent customer service and relationship management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and field service management software.
- Ability to interpret technical documents, specifications, drawings, and service reports.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification
- NFPA 70E Training
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)
- Project Management Professional (PMP) (preferred)
- Manufacturer certifications related to HVAC, Generator, Controls, or Electrical systems
