Job Description

  • The Field Service Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing field service activities related to the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and support of Power Distribution Centers (PDC), E-Houses, and electrical switchgear systems. This role acts as the primary liaison between customers, internal engineering teams, manufacturing, and field service technicians to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within scope, and within budget. The Field Service Project Manager oversees site activities, manages subcontractors and field crews, and ensures compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Manage field service projects involving installation, commissioning, maintenance, and upgrades of PDCs, E-Houses, and medium- and low-voltage switchgear systems.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers during field service project execution.
  • Plan and coordinate field activities including scheduling technicians, subcontractors, tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Assist the FS manager in evaluating and maintaining schedule and capacity.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and documentation to ensure field execution aligns with design requirements.
  • Monitor project schedules, costs, and resource utilization to ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Ensure all applicable policies and procedures are available to the field teams, I.E. company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable electrical codes and standards by state or region.
  • Conduct meetings with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to communicate project status and resolve issues.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, technical challenges, and schedule impacts.
  • Provide technical information and support to field technicians during installation and commissioning activities.
  • Document project progress, field changes, punch list items, and service reports.
  • Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve technical issues or design changes encountered during field work.
  • Prepare and deliver project updates, reports, and close-out documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to field service procedures, commissioning practices, and project execution.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and control systems.
  • Experience with installation and commissioning of PDCs, E-Houses, or similar modular power distribution equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, and layout drawings.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship management abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in electrical systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety practices including lockout/tagout, arc flash safety, and energized work procedures.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NEMA.
  • Proficiency with project management and reporting tools such as Microsoft Project, Excel, and MRP systems.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams including technicians, contractors, and engineers.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites as required.

Minimum Experience Required

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in electrical field service, switchgear manufacturing, power distribution systems, or industrial electrical projects.
  • Minimum of 4 years of project management or supervisory experience overseeing field installations, commissioning, or service operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing field projects related to switchgear, substations, PDCs, or modular electrical buildings (E-Houses).
  • Experience working with industrial, utility, oil & gas, data center, or renewable energy customers preferred.

Preferred Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
  • Applicable years of experience may be accepted.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
  • NICET or NETA certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to move navigate shop floors and walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
