Job Description

As a Protection Commissioning Engineer at GE Vernova, you will serve as a technical authority responsible for the commissioning, optimization, and lifecycle support of advanced protection systems across the India and SSA regions. You will act as the primary interface between GE Vernova and our customers, ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient project delivery while leading the resolution of complex protection and control challenges at site.

Technical Domain Expertise

The ideal candidate must demonstrate expert-level, hands-on experience with industry-standard protection platforms across the following domains:

  • Generator Protection: Configuration and testing of complex schemes for large-scale generation assets (GE Vernova G60, MiCOM P343, Siemens 7UMx, ABB REG670).
  • Busbar Protection (BBP): Proficiency in both high and low-impedance schemes. Mandatory: Deep conceptual and testing knowledge of P741/P743 (Distributed) and P746 (Centralized) architectures.
  • Line Protection: Advanced application of distance (MHO/Quadrilateral) and differential protection, including tele-protection schemes (POTT, PUTT, Blocking). Experience with GE Vernova P54x/L90, Siemens 7SL, ABB RED670, and SEL 411L
  • Transformer Protection: Implementation and testing of differential (87T), REF, and overcurrent/earth fault logic (GEV P64x/T60, Siemens 7UTx, ABB RET670, SEL 487E).
  • Backup Protection: Extensive experience with auxiliary Overcurrent (OC) and Earth Fault (EF) protection across diverse relay makes.

Core Responsibilities

  • Commissioning Excellence: Possesses in-depth knowledge of substation protection systems, relay technologies, and protection philosophies across Generator, Transformer, Transmission Line, Busbar, and Backup protection schemes and communication devices, ensuring robust IED integration with SCADA systems.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Conduct root-cause analysis and onsite diagnostics, strictly adhering to GE Vernova safety protocols.
  • System Optimization: Execute relay setting reviews, tripping analyses, and coordination studies to ensure grid stability, selectivity, and sensitivity.
  • Customer & Technical Leadership: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients; mentor junior engineers and provide cross-functional leadership.
  • Operational Proficiency: Expert use of secondary injection test kits (Omicron, ISA, Doble, Megger) and ability to interpret complex schematic drawings.
  • Continuous Improvement: Manage "Record of Experience" (ROE) documentation to drive internal learning and prevent recurring technical issues.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical or Electronics & Communication Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 4+ years of professional experience in substation protection and commissioning.
  • Language: High proficiency in English (Read/Write/Speak) and Hindi; additional regional languages are an asset.
  • Mobility: Willingness to undertake extensive, long-duration travel across India and the SSA region.

  • Quality & Safety Focus: Maintains an unwavering commitment to high standards of quality, operational compliance, and strict adherence to safety protocols
