
Field Systems Engineer
Location: Portage, IN
Compensation: $65,000–$95,000 per year
Wright Technical Services is supporting a leading industrial automation environment within the metals processing industry. This role is critical to maintaining maximum equipment uptime through expert field troubleshooting, system maintenance, and technical support.
Responsibilities
Provide on-site troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial automation equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance activities and field system modifications.
Respond to emergency service calls on a rotating on-call schedule.
Maintain accurate and timely service documentation, customer logs, and internal service records.
Maintain daily communication with customers to ensure issue resolution, proper follow-up, and high customer satisfaction.
Support small engineering projects with varying levels of technical complexity.
Identify and participate in sales opportunities including service contracts, renewals, and system upgrades.
Operate safely in industrial environments involving electrical, mechanical, and pressurized systems.
Experience
Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
(Entry-level candidates with strong technical aptitude will be considered.)
5+ years of field service or industrial automation experience preferred.
2+ years of leadership, supervision, or project coordination experience preferred.
Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and configuring PLC platforms including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and GE.
Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and configuring variable frequency drives including Siemens, ABB, and Allen-Bradley.
Experience troubleshooting or configuring HMI systems and software packages (preferred).
Experience in metals processing or other heavy industrial manufacturing environments (strongly preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability and willingness to travel 50–70% domestically.
