We are now looking for a Field Service Engineer – Marine Engines to join our team working for a better future.

The position is permanent, and the preferred location is within Canada, ideally near a major international airport.

What You Will Be Doing?

As a Field Service Engineer, you will execute a wide range of field service activities on Wartsila engines, including maintenance, overhauls, troubleshooting, and reporting. You will represent Wartsila at customer sites, ensuring high-quality service delivery aligned with safety and technical standards.

You will work in dynamic environments, both onshore and offshore, collaborating with internal teams and interacting directly with customers to support operational excellence.

In this role, you will report to the Team Leader, FS 4-Stroke.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform field service activities according to the work plan on Wartsila engines.
  • Execute engine overhauls, repairs, and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and apply practical problem-solving skills.
  • Interact professionally with customers during work execution.
  • Provide internal and external progress updates for assigned work.
  • Create and maintain accurate Service Work Reports.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with Wartsila QEHS guidelines and site procedures.
  • Follow up and report on the status of work orders to customers and internal stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Technical degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • Hands-on experience in marine engine maintenance, installation, and repair.
  • Experience working with Wartsila engines or similar marine systems.
  • Experience with Wartsila Dual Fuel engines or similar technologies is a plus.
  • Experience working in offshore and remote environments.

Skills:

  • Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in field conditions.
  • Customer-facing experience with professional interaction skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Knowledge of auxiliary systems related to marine engines is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision: Close, distance, and depth perception.
  • Color perception (red, green, amber).
  • Hearing and clear verbal communication.
  • Manual dexterity (hands and fingers).
  • Ability to mount and dismount equipment (e.g., forklift/truck).
  • Physical activities: pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, crawling.
  • Lifting up to 45 lbs and carrying up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, sit, bend, and move for extended periods.
  • Climbing and maintaining balance.

Travel Requirements:

In this role, extensive domestic and international travel is required. While some activities may be planned, the role requires flexibility, with travel expected up to 75% of the time (approximately 7–8 months per year), including onshore and offshore assignments.

Successful applicants must be authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Successful candidates must be able to travel to the United States for business purposes.

For applicants that reside in BC/ON, the annual salary wage range is $62,000 CAD - $88,000 CAD.

The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, individual skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration of internal equity.

Wartsila Canada offers a generous benefit package for eligible permanent roles, including but not limited to; extended medical & dental coverage, RRSP matching (employer contribution up to 7% of salary), 4 weeks of vacation (increases based on years of service with Wartsila) and 5 paid personal days per year.
