Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will execute technical service activities with low to medium complexity on DCS and PLC systems across hydro power plants and industrial facilities in the APAC region. You will deliver exceptional customer service while troubleshooting complex equipment, identifying operational improvement opportunities, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. Your work directly impacts customer satisfaction, operational reliability, and ABB's reputation for service excellence.

This role is contributing to Automation Energy Industries Excitation Business.

Locations: Malaysia/Philippines/Indonesia, or Thailand.

You will be mainly responsible for:

  • Planning, preparing, and executing field service work on DCS and PLC systems in accordance with customer orders, work instructions, ABB standard processes, and quality standards while maintaining full compliance with health, safety, and environmental guidelines.

  • Performing on-site and remote diagnostics to identify technical issues, troubleshoot equipment and process failures, and provide root-cause analysis and recommendations to prevent future occurrences.

  • Delivering superior customer experience by maintaining clear communication of service timelines, managing expectations, ensuring on-time job completion, and executing work with a first-time right approach.

  • Preparing comprehensive material lists, verifying availability and quality of all parts and equipment prior to service execution, and maintaining organized documentation of all service activities and technical reports for customer sign-off.

  • Working collaboratively with customers on-site to identify operational pain points, improvement opportunities, and potential system enhancements, then notifying the account team for follow-up commercial engagement.

  • Servicing multiple DCS system configurations with demonstrated expertise in hydro power processes, utilizing all relevant diagnostic and service tools while maintaining current technical certification and knowledge.

  • Driving continuous improvement by identifying enhancement opportunities in service delivery processes, requesting proactive corrective actions from engineering teams, and implementing recommendations for operational efficiency.

  • Maintaining customer retention and satisfaction through professional conduct, responsive communication, reliability, and commitment to delivering value-added service solutions that strengthen long-term partnerships.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent qualification with minimum 5 years of hands-on field service experience in troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning of PLC/DCS systems.

  • Proven expertise servicing multiple DCS system types with strong technical understanding of hydro power generation processes and demonstrated experience in power plants or industrial facilities (Oil & Gas, hydro power, or similar sectors).

  • Proficiency with ABB PLC or DCS systems combined with hands-on troubleshooting experience with field instruments, control systems, and electrical automation concepts.

  • Fluent in spoken and written English with excellent customer communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) for documentation, reporting, and technical analysis.

  • Strong sense of urgency and commitment to customer satisfaction with ability to execute work with attention to detail, meet tight deadlines, and maintain high quality standards consistently.

  • Proven problem-solving capability with ability to work independently in field environments, coordinate with distributed teams, and think critically to propose practical solutions to technical challenges.

  • Willingness to travel frequently within the APAC region (Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand) and flexibility to work onsite at customer locations in dynamic industrial environments.
