Job Title

Field Service Engineer – Cryogenic Storage Systems

Our Sample Management Solutions (SMS) team is currently seeking reinforcement for our Field Service Engineering Team

How You´ll Add Value

As a Field Service Engineer, with special focus on our CRYOGENIC SOLUTIONS portfolio, you will be responsible for delivering routine and ad‑hoc technical services at our customers’ sites. This includes installation, upgrades, repairs, preventive maintenance, and other technical support for Azenta systems and equipment.

You will have the opportunity to work with advanced technologies, especially in low‑temperature environments such as automated storage systems and transport robots. You will also support a wide range of industrial and bioscience equipment — including automation devices, consumables, liquid nitrogen storage systems, ultra‑low temperature freezers, and dehumidification systems.

What You´ll Do

  • Troubleshoot customer issues and ensure compliance with our service agreements at customer sites across UK or other European locations.

  • Perform maintenance work on equipment and systems, including software/hardware installation, upgrades, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance.

  • Analyse problems, investigate and report root causes/corrective actions, and monitor system performance.

  • Provide operational support for customer‑managed samples (e.g., supporting the transfer of samples, and shifting from manual to automated storage systems).

  • Communicate and collaborate with global teams to complete tasks effectively.

  • Prepare and submit documentation, including service reports and status reports.

  • Respond to occasional emergency call‑outs in the event of equipment or production line failures or other escalations.

  • Maintain loaner equipment.

  • Support organisational and administrative tasks such as preparing quotations or arranging shipment of loaner or customer equipment.

What You´ll Bring

  • Completed vocational training (or Bachelor’s degree) in an engineering discipline or a related field.

  • Hands‑on experience in maintaining or building electrical systems, machinery, or automation equipment.

  • Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical safety.

  • Proficiency in English, written and spoken. Other languages are an advantage.

  • Experience in identifying root causes of equipment failures and conducting structured troubleshooting.

  • Valid driving licence (car).

  • Strong PC skills and familiarity with Windows/DOS‑based operating systems.

  • Willingness to travel frequently, both domestically and internationally, including occasional short‑notice trips or weekend/holiday assignments. (valid passport for international travel required)

  • Flexibility to participate in on‑call rotations for remote troubleshooting.

Personal Strengths

  • Discretion and sound judgement.

  • Excellent communication skills and strong customer interaction.

  • Ability to independently resolve issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Ability to think independently and prioritise according to business needs.

Desirable

  • Experience with refrigeration/low‑temperature systems.

  • Experience with Oracle.
