As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for providing high-quality technical service and support for sophisticated analytical and scientific instruments at customer sites.

You will perform installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and other field service activities while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction. The role requires strong technical capability, effective customer communication and the ability to work independently within an assigned territory.

You will work with customers across research, industrial and healthcare environments and collaborate with internal technical, commercial and support teams to resolve service issues efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission and verify the performance of analytical and scientific instruments at customer sites.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and equipment repairs in accordance with established service procedures.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot instrument hardware, software and system-related issues.
  • Identify root causes of equipment problems and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Provide timely and professional on-site and remote technical support to customers.
  • Ensure service activities are completed safely, accurately and in compliance with Thermo Fisher Scientific quality and service standards.
  • Document service activities, technical findings, parts usage and customer interactions accurately in the service management system.
  • Manage assigned service calls and customer commitments efficiently to meet service response and completion targets.
  • Maintain appropriate tools and test equipment required to support field service activities.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding equipment condition, service activities and recommended follow-up actions.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to the appropriate technical support or specialist teams when required.
  • Collaborate effectively with all cross-functional teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, service delivery and overall customer experience.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through product training, technical documentation and hands-on experience.
  • Comply with all applicable Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and company policies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on technical experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of analytical, scientific or comparable sophisticated instrumentation.
  • Candidates with relevant field service experience from authorized dealers, distributors or competitors may also be considered.
  • Practical experience diagnosing electrical, electronic, mechanical and/or instrument system issues is preferred.
  • Experience working directly with customers in a technical service environment is an advantage.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple service activities simultaneously in a dynamic field environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with service management or field service software.
  • Willingness and ability to continuously develop technical knowledge and skills.

Travel Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 25–50% within the assigned territory, depending on customer and business requirements.
