Completes technical-oriented service tasks of various scopes and supports in planning and managing these tasks.

Job Des cription

  • This job may include any aspect of field supp ort, and is not limited to system hardware and s oftware, PCs, and networking/wi reless netw orking. Installs and upgrades a wide range of complex and advanced c ompany products acc ording to technical documentati on and company guidelines t o ensure that customer’s equipment operates efficiently.
  • Provides highly visible cust omer supp ort through the perf ormance of on-site support of pr ot on therapy equipment and ancillary
    de vices, as well as overseeing any necessary diagn oses, tr oublesho oting, service, upgrades, repair, installation and c ommissi oning of

complex equipment and systems.

  • Checks out and approves operati onal quality of system equipment.
  • Instructs customers in the operati on - and if the site has customer technical personnel on site the customer service team in the

maintenance of the system.

  • Serves as company liais on with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned proj ects. Interprets customers’ needs

and clarifies if the responsibility for pr oblem resolution falls t o 2nd level supp ort or GFO management.

  • Dem onstrates to customer equipment operati on and specification acc ording to Customer Acceptance Procedure and Custom er

Technical Bulletins, as required

  • Understanding of the clinical routines t o be able t o pr ofessi onally w ork with the customer to supp ort patient treatmen t
  • May co ordinate and review the activities of a small group of Installati on Representatives and Subc on tract ors.
  • W orks in cooperati on with other expert company resources, required t o assist in perf orming the installation, upgrade and

tr oubleshooting activities as well as service activities.

  • W orks within a compact team of site engineers, m onitoring all aspects of the prot on therapy system.
  • Fulfills special client's requirements when in place, f ollowing company’s procedures and politics.
  • Perf orms maintenance of the system in acc ordance with Preventive Maintenance Plan and Maintenance Instructi ons
  • Perf orms necessary upgrades of the system in acc ordance with Service Technical Bulletins, as needed.
  • Proactively m onitors c ondition of the system and escalates t o site management and/or 2nd level supp ort if abnormal operati on/trends
  • are identified.

  • Provides filed service rep orts ab out executed tasks in Unity system, using defined company standards
  • Follows all applicable c ompany instructi ons, requirements and policies
  • Follows both company and local safety policies
  • Maintain device hist ory rec ords regarding operating characteristics, design factors, technical performance, and de vel opment of pr oducts
  • t o improve installati on efficiency.

  • Perf orms parts invent ory and ordering f or assigned installation, including replenishing spare parts kit, sh ort shipment and return
  • c onsigned parts appropriately and in a timely manner per procedure as necessary f or each install.

  • During Installati ons and Upgrade activities: C onduct the Acceptance Conditi ons testing, to ensure that all installation cond iti ons will be
  • met acc ording t o schedule and that customers can sign the Acceptance Letters.

  • Perf orm other duties as assigned by site general manager or FSE lead
  • W orks on assignments that are m oderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendati ons
  • Take lead r ole when w orking with newer and less experienced colleagues, shares knowledge

Typi cal Edu cation and Experience

  • Knowledge of and s ound profes si onal experience with electr onic, mechatronic and electr o-mechanical engineering, testing equipment
  • used f or verification, check out, and calibration of electr onic and/ or mechanical equipment.

  • Capable t o w ork on assignments that are moderate difficult, res olving issues or making recommendati ons.
  • Requires minimum t o no supervisi on in daily duties.
  • N ormally receives little instructi on on day to- day w ork, general instructions on newly introduced assignments
  • Knowledge of and s ound professi onal technical experience with micr o-computersPC based systems
  • Customer f ocused attitude
  • Articulate and skilled in interpersonal c ommunicati on
  • Fluency in English, b oth written and spoken
  • Proficient in utilizing business to ols such as Microsoft Office Applications
  • Has completed full Varian internal technical training basic pr ogram.
  • Obtains and c ompletes Varian’s training plan specific t o assigned resp onsibility.
  • Has substantial understanding of the j ob and applies knowledge and skills to c omplete a wide range of tasks

Other Desired Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience with SA P or equivalent ERP and PDM products and productivity s oftware
  • Experience in servicing or manufacturing of medical de vices with conforming of ISO13485 standar d
  • Kn owledge of l ocal language
  • May be required t o specialize in specific technical areas and have a s olid level of cros s-functional and overall system knowledge.
  • Establish and maintain a netw ork to 2nd level Supp ort Team

Spe cial Job Requirements

  • Unless prohibited by law, the p ositi on must meet all Vendor Credentialing requirements necessary t o have full client access and must

c ontinue to meet those requirements during Varian employment in this position.

  • Perf orm emergency on-site service interventions when required, t o pr ovide the highest level of customer satisfacti on
  • Perf orm duties within a rotating three-shift system including holidays/weekend s as required
  • Willingness t o w ork flexible hours including beyond standard work week hours.
  • W orks in radiati on-contr olled area
  • Occupational exp osure to radiation and other occupational hazards pertaining to the insta llati on and maintenance of the Prot on

Therapy Syste m

  • Ability t o access and w ork within c onfined spaces and heights.
  • Standing, sitting, or stooping for extended periods of time.
  • Expected t o be able t o travel approximately 25%, including international, dependent on assigned locati on.
