  • Ability to execute the full suite of transformer diagnostic testing, such as:
    • Insulation Power Factor (Doble PF/Tan Delta)
    • Excitation current testing
    • Winding resistance testing
    • TTR (Turns Ratio Testing)
    • Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA)
    • Dielectric Frequency Response (DFR)
    • Leakage Reactance / Short-circuit impedance
    • Capacitance and insulation resistance measurements
    • Partial discharge testing (when required)
    • Oil sampling, dissolved gas analysis (DGA), and moisture assessment
  • Operate and maintain advanced test equipment from OEMs such as Doble, Omicron, Megger, Vanguard, and others.

Commissioning & Field Service

  • Lead and support transformer energization, acceptance testing, and commissioning activities for new or refurbished power transformers.
  • Verify compliance with utility, EPC, and OEM specifications.
  • Perform on-site troubleshooting for abnormal transformer conditions and support root-cause investigations.
  • Collaborate with engineering to analyze test results and trends to evaluate transformer health and recommend corrective actions.
  • Compile and support the preparation of detailed technical data with interpretations, conclusions, and maintenance recommendations.
  • Communicate test results and findings to engineering teams, utility clients, and project managers.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow as OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety procedures during testing and field service work.
  • Ensure testing is performed in alignment with IEEE, ASTM, NETA, and OEM guidelines.
  • Support the maintenance, calibration, and proper care of all test instruments and PPE.

Technical Leadership

  • 5+ years of experience performing transformer testing in utility, industrial, EPC, or field-service environments.
  • Expert knowledge of IEEE C57 transformer testing standards and field-testing practices.
  • Proficiency with transformer testing instruments (Doble, Omicron, Megger, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of transformer construction, theory, insulation systems, and failure modes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and OEM manuals.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to travel to job sites, sometimes on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NETA Level III or IV certification (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with EHV/UHV transformer commissioning (230kV–765kV and above).
  • Training of certification in SFRA, PD testing, or advanced diagnostic methods.
  • Experience working with EPCs, IOUs, IPPs, or large industrial clients.
  • Familiarity with digital transformer monitoring systems.
  • Experience with High Voltage breakers a plus

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

About Pennsylvania Transformer Technology LLC (PTT)

Pennsylvania Transformer Technology LLC (PTT) is a US-owned, industry leading manufacturer of a wide range of sizes and types of power transformers for the investor-owned electrical utility, municipal power, and industrial markets. Within its two US locations, PTT manufactures transformers rated from 5MVA to 600MVA and 345kV. This includes substation units, generator step-up units, autotransformers, grounding transformers, mobile transformers, unit auxiliaries, unit substations, and three-phase voltage regulators.

We have a rich heritage that dates back almost a century. Our headquarters is located in Canonsburg, PA and is the former site of McGraw-Edison and Cooper Power Systems transformer operations. Our roots designing and manufacturing power transformers extend back to 1929 with transformers being made in our Canonsburg facility since the 1950s. Our sister facility, devoted to small power transformer production, is located in Raeford, NC and has been producing transformers under current ownership since it was built in 1992.

Capital investments in our manufacturing facility have produced a world-class power transformer plant. Our one-million square-foot facility provides tremendous capabilities; including a one-million pound lifting capacity and an impulse generator capable of 2400kV and 360kJ. We employ experienced design engineers who use finite-element-analysis and 3D computer modelling software to optimize designs. We design/build to customer specifications and industry standards such as ANSI, IEEE, NEMA and CSA. Our ISO-based systems assure maximum dielectric and short-circuit strength resulting in the highest quality, reliability and a long, trouble-free service life. PTT’s promise is to build the best power transformers in the industry through superior processes, work ethic and employee pride.
