Are you an environmental consultant with a passion for exceptional client service? Terracon is seeking an experienced environmental practitioner to join our team in our Hartford, CT office.

Our office works on a diverse set of projects sourced both locally and nationally, including environmental site assessments (Phase I/II ESAs/LSIs); comprehensive site characterization and risk assessments; remedial design, installation and O&M and asbestos & industrial hygiene (IH) projects. We are a multi-discipline solution provider to myriad clients that include Fortune 100 international Commercial-Retail owners/operators and developers; financial institutions; law firms; national and Northeast-US based architect/engineer (A/E) clients; as well as towns, municipalities, and school districts in the local New England marketplace.

General Responsibilities:

Conduct environmental site investigations, assessments and surveys to sample, measure and analyze air, water, material, and soil. Identify, evaluate and recommend risk and remediation strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Prepare applicable permit applications, risk assessments and technical documents including proposals, reports and regulatory agency correspondence. Design systems and environmental protection plans. Projects may include Phase I/II environmental site assessments, ecological and natural resource field surveys, tank closure assessments, asbestos abatement, storm water management, and site planning and permitting.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

• Entry- to Mid-level Professional responsible for conducting site testing at locations in CT; Hudson Valley of New York state; and MA, RI and remaining New England states.
• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Integrate quality practices into daily regimen
• Participates with more senior scientists/engineers on large, more complex projects.
• Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
• Provide oversight of soil excavation, soil sampling activities during construction in contaminated areas.
• Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
• Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects including quality control review of proposals written by others.
• Evaluates complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports.
• May serve as team member or lead in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
• May oversee work performed by lower-level scientists/engineers and Technicians.
• Works under the supervision of a Terracon Project Manager and Authorized Project Reviewer.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related science field and a minimum 1 year related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years’ related experience.
• A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
• Current with OSHA 40-hour/8-hour Refresher HAZWOPER training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in field of expertise preferred.
