Job Description

The Field Reliability Engineer drives proactive quality initiatives for the Battery Systems portfolio, focusing on building infrastructure for diagnostics and product support to improve warranty outcomes and social media sentiment. Reporting to the Mgr of QE/RE, this role requires strong cross-functional collaboration to drive technical and process improvements expected to operate in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute failure analysis methodologies
  • Develop formal failure analysis reports with data and findings after analysis completion.
  • Regularly analyze and report quality metrics to cross-functional teams and global leadership, ensuring visibility and actionable insights.
  • Partner with Brand Marketing to conduct user outreach, gain insights into user experience, and translate findings into product improvements.
  • Collaborate with IT and Analytics teams to manage data infrastructure.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility, including the establishment and maintenance of a Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS).
  • Drive statistical analysis of warranty data to identify trends and diagnose issues.
  • Summarize findings and collaborate on corrective actions to improve product reliability.
  • Maintain design history and track open issues by SKU for NPD to mitigate risks of poor customer experience or warranty increases.
  • Collaborate with electronic component and cell suppliers and distributors on component failure modes identification and evaluation.
  • Monitor Product Support Engineering (PSE) and Value Engineering (VE) initiatives, ensuring they align with quality improvement goals.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Demonstrated experience processing acquired data and information to arrive at a conclusion regarding the cause of failure.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time is required (travel includes Domestic and International)

Preferred:

  • Experience with the design and development of Li-ion systems, power electronics/power converters
  • Familiarity and experience with high-volume manufacturing of electronics products, including mixed surface mount/through-hole PCBs and electromechanical assembly.
  • Previous experience in quality engineering, field reliability, or product support.
  • Proficiency in statistical tools (Minitab, Weibull, SPC) and data platforms (PowerBI).
  • Experience with FRACAS and field diagnostics systems.
  • Experience analyzing field data, performing root cause analysis, and improving warranty performance.
